Benign Report

It is not appropriate to generali2e the carcinogenicity of this class of compounds. Nitrofura2one appears to increase the incidence of benign mammary tumors in rats. The tumorigenic activity of fura2ohdone is expressed by an increase in the incidence of spontaneous tumors in both mice and rats. Bioassays of nitrofurantoin in several species of mice and rats failed to reveal any evidence of direct tumorigenic activity. Ovarian tumors have been reported in B C F mice, but these are beheved due to an indirect expression of toxicity (14,15). [Pg.460]

Plasmodium vivax, responsible for the most prevalent form of malaria (benign tertian), has an incubation period of 8—27 days (14 average). A variety seen in northern and northeastern Europe has an incubation period as long as 8—10 months. The disease can cause splenic mpture and anemia. Relapses (renewed manifestations of erythrocytic infection) can occur with this type of malaria. Overall, P. vivax is stiU susceptible to chloroquine however, resistant strains have been reported from Papua New Guinea and parts of Indonesia. Plasmodium malariae the cause of quartan malaria, has an incubation period of 15—30 days and its asexual cycle is 72 hours. This mildest form of malaria can cause nephritis in addition to the usual symptoms. It is a nonrelapsing type of malaria but the ted blood ceU infection can last for many years. No resistance to chloroquine by this plasmodium has been reported. Plasmodium ovale responsible for ovale tertian malaria, has an incubation period of 9—17 days (15 average). Relapses can occur in people infected with this plasmodium. No chloroquine resistance has been reported for this parasite. [Pg.270]

The National Toxicology Program (NTP) reported on tests on mice and rats that there was an increase in the spontaneous incidence of benign tumors in male and female rats and an increase in malignant Hver and lung tumors in B6C3E1 mice. NTP concluded that these data demonstrated clear evidence of carcinogenicity in mice and female rats and some evidence in male rats (35). [Pg.521]

We have reported a simple, green, bench top, economical and environmentally benign room temperature synthesis of MSe (M=Cd or Zn) nanoparticles using starch, PVA and PVP as passivating agents. The whole process is a redox reaction with selenium acting as the oxidant and MSe as the reduction product. An entire "green" chemistry was explored in this synthetic procedure and it is reproducible. The optical spectroscopy showed that all the particles are blue shifted from the bulk band gap clearly due to quantum confinement. Starch capped CdSe nanoparticles showed the presence of monodispersed spherical... [Pg.179]

As was the case with albumin, reports on clinical studies employing gelatin microspheres are limited and confined to Japan. Bleomycin, contained in a microsphere-in-oil formulation, was targeted to the lymph nodes for the treatment of infantile cystic hygroma, a benign tumor (143). Successful treatment was noted in all cases. [Pg.250]

A more practical, atom-economic and environmentally benign aziridination protocol is the use of chloramine-T or bromamine-T as nitrene source, which leads to NaCl or NaBr as the sole reaction by-product. In 2001, Gross reported an iron corrole catalyzed aziridination of styrenes with chloramine-T [83]. With iron corrole as catalyst, the aziridination can be performed rmder air atmosphere conditions, affording aziridines in moderate product yields (48-60%). In 2004, Zhang described an aziridination with bromamine-T as nitrene source and [Fe(TTP)Cl] as catalyst [84]. This catalytic system is effective for a variety of alkenes, including aromatic, aliphatic, cyclic, and acyclic alkenes, as well as cx,p-unsaturated esters (Scheme 28). Moderate to low stereoselectivities for 1,2-disubstituted alkenes were observed indicating the involvement of radical intermediate. [Pg.133]

As with carboxylic acids obtained by palladium hydroxycarbonylation, their derivatives esters, amides, anhydrides and acyl halides are synthesized from alkenes, CO and HX (X = OR, NR2 etc.). The Pd-catalyzed methoxycarbonylation is one of the most studied reactions among this type of catalyzed carbonylations and has been reviewed and included in reports of homogeneous catalysis.625, 26 The methoxycarbonylation has been applied to many different substrates to obtain intermediates in organic syntheses as well as specific products. For instance, the reaction has been applied for methoxycarbonylation of alkynes666 Highly efficient homogeneous Pd cationic catalysts have been reported and the methoxycarbonylation of alkynes has been used to develop economically attractive and environmentally benign process for the production of methyl... [Pg.191]

Urinary hesitancy and retention are commonly reported, especially with low-potency FGAs and clozapine, and men with benign prostatic hypertrophy are especially prone. [Pg.825]

Besides cancer, tamoxifen induces benign changes in the endometrial and subendometrial structures, which induce a burden of unnecessary examinations (ultrasound, hysteroscopy, biopsy etc.) and surgery (D Cs, hysterectomies) due to misleading or false positive ultrasonographic reports (Dijkhuizen et al. 1996). Since the absolute incidence of the disease is low... [Pg.262]

Although numerous advantages are associated with the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (scC02) as an ecologically benign and user friendly reaction medium, systematic applications to metal-catalyzed processes are still rare. A notable exception is a recent report on the use of scC02 for the formation of industrially relevant polymers by ROMP and the eyelization of various dienes or enynes via RCM [7]. Both Schrock s molybdenum alkylidene complex 24 and the ruthe-... [Pg.68]
