Before the Conference

Scan the program and decide whieh sessions you would like to attend and what speakers you want to hear. You may have to consider some session jumping, especially when many interesting sessions are scheduled at the same time. Even more important.

This chapter focuses on writing a conference abstract, not to be confused with a journal article abstract, which was addressed in chapter 7. A conference abstract is submitted in response to a Call for Abstracts issued by conference organizers, typically 3-6 months before the conference takes place. The abstract is reviewed and, if accepted, allows the authors to present a contributed paper (as either an oral or poster presentation) at a conference session. Only accepted papers may be presented at a conference whether they are oral or poster presentations is a decision usually made by conference organizers. Before the Conference participants departed, they were given a copy of the harmonised guidelines (ICH Code M4 ) on a CD-ROM. The text of the Safety Pharmacology Guideline (S7) was also on CD and Guideline Q7 was distributed in hard copy. The documents warned, however, that the texts may be subject to editorial change , and the final version will be posted on the ICH website [http //www.ifpma.org/ich7.html] and those of the FDA, EU and MHW. 

Last year s ASSE PDC in Baltimore, Maryland, set a record when 62,000 square feet of exhibit space was sold representing more than 400 exhibitors. This was the largest number of exhibitors and square feet sold since the first ASSE PDC held in 1968. This year, three months before the conference, ASSE has already sold 60,800 square feet and is already planning to expand. The conference, which draws attendees from around the world, also draws international exhibitors. To date, companies from China, U.K., Taiwan, Puerto Rico, the Netherlands, Korea, India, Japan and Canada will exhibit products and services. 

This book could not have been produced had I not enjoyed the perfect understanding and co-operation by all contributors. The authors submitted their manuscripts in April 1964, allowing sufficient time to have the book published in July, well in advance of the Conference. Thus it will be possible to provide each participant with a copy several weeks before the Conference and I have every hope that participants will read the abstracts before the Conference, so that discussions may be considerably "catalysed . 

Before the Conference at each regular session proceeds to elections to the Executive Council, the presiding officer shall indicate to the Conference those elective places on the Executive Council which must be filled so as to ensure that after the end of that session the Executive Council will be constituted in accordance with Article VIII, paragraph 23, of the Convention. 

The 1st International Liquid Crystal Conference (ILCC) was held at Kent State University in the United States in 1965 with 42 participants. Thereafter, the ILCC has been held every 2 years. This committee organized the 8th ILCC in Kyoto in 1980 with 562 participants. Because there was no liquid crystal society in Japan at that time, the sponsoring body was this committee. The chairperson was Professor Masanobu Wada of Tohoku University, but he died suddenly before the conference and Professor Masatami Takeda of Tokyo University of Science served as the chairperson instead. I can well remember Professor Takeda s figure for the positive outcome of his negotiations with the JSPS or the Ministry of Finance in order to get duty-free authorization for deductions for contributions by companies. The state-of-the-art portable black-and-white LCD televisions exhibited at the conference by the Japanese electric companies were of special interest to participants. This exhibition emphasized the technical level for the LCD in Japan to all who attended, and the conference was a great success.

Protocol. In 1997, prior to President Clinton s acceptance of the Kyoto Protocol, U.S. Senate Resolution 98, the Byrd-Hcgcl resolution, which was passed by a vote of ninety-five to zero, imposes specific requirements that must be met before the Kyoto Protocol can be ratified. The resolution calls for a specific timeline and commitments by developing countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and evidence that adoption of the Kyoto Protocol would not result in serious harm to the U.S. economy. In addition, the Fifth Conference of the Parties (1999) failed to resolve numerous outstanding issues held over from the previous conference, and put off critical decision making until the Sixth Conference of the Parties in The Ffague, Netherlands, in November 2000. 

Because ring they did. Yes, I tried to bury myself in libraries and archives, the deep trench-digging of my doctorate work, the academic papers, the meetings and seminars, the conference speeches, the new appointments and departmental committees, but nothing stopped my ears. Then, before long, I found a way... 

I and other members of the GVW Fire and Rescue Department have been to eleven states to provide information about the rail wreck and the deaths of our citizens and workers. We have made a Power Point presentation, and last week I and the GVW Assistance Chief were in Baltimore, Maryland to appear before the National Association of Fire Chiefs Haz-Mat Technical Conference. We have also been to Traverse City, Michigan Cincinnati, Ohio the FDIC in Illinois the State Firemen Convention at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Fairfax, Virginia and other cities. We probably put on our show on 150 times. 

From the beginning, there were objections to Perrin s line of argument as well as to the independent work of McC. Lewis and others. When Perrin requested him to read the original 1919 paper, Einstein wrote, "Your opinion of the primary importance of radiation for all chemical reactions still appears doubtful to me," as it had when they first discussed it before the war. Objections to Perrin s presentation made at a 1921 Faraday symposium surfaced again at the first and second international Solvay chemistry conferences in 1922 and 1925.83... 

A few weeks before the first Solvay chemistry conference in 1922, French chemists signed a letter declining to reestablish relations among chemists of Western and Central Europe.
