Beetle plastics

The easiest, neatest way to make compost in a small space is in a ready-made compost bin. Most are made from recycled plastic, but if the bin has to be positioned in view, there are also attractive wooden bins available, which can be painted or stained any color you want. Most come without a base so that they can stand on top of the soil—this allows the microorganisms in the soil and larger composting worms and beetles to move up through the material in the bin, composting as they go. If you do not have access to soil, choose a bin with a base and start off with a layer of soil, adding some more if you can as your heap builds up.

This hypothesis is unvalidated at present, because these case studies employed different methods, are not replicated across genera, variability in natural enemies numbers is complex, and we caimot adequately separate cause and effect. Also, ratios of predators to prey are highly plastic within systems,and predation and competition are not independent owing to dilution effects. We also lack information on its applicability to other systems. Predaceous checkered beetles cause greater proportionate mortality to mountain pine beetle, Dendroctonus ponderosae Hopkins during endemic than eruptive conditions, which is consistent with our model, but not validating without information on the pre-attack chemistry of killed trees. Likewise, predation of southern pine beetle, Dendroctonus frontalis... 

Beetle British Industrial Plastics Urea—formaldehyde resin...

In the United States, Beetle was made by the Synthetic Plastics Co., in which British Cyanides was originally a shareholder, but which by 1933 was mainly owned and controlled by American Cyanamid.

Beetle BA 509 is a short-medium semi-drying oil alkyd at 50% in xylol/butanol. Beetle BE 678 is an o-butylated U/F resin at 66% in /50-butanol. Both resins are made by British Industrial Plastics Ltd. 

The crude synthetic pheromone 6 was tested under field conditions. The field traps were made from plastic pipe 6 cm in diameter and wire mesh they were oriented horizontally and permitted wind to pass through. They had funnels formed from wire mesh on the downwind end, which allowed the attracted beetles to enter but which prevented escape. The traps were baited inside either with the pheromone (formulated at 500 /ig per rubber septum), fermenting whole-wheat bread dough (a very effective attractant for C. lugubris 20 g per trap), or a combination of these baits. BIP Chemicals, Cytec Industries (Fiberite and Beetle), Perstorp, and Plastics Engineering (Plenco) are among several manufacturers that commercially produce melamine formaldehyde resins. 

Damage to plastics packaging by rodents is usually mechanical and is not very amenable to countering by chemical additives in the plastics formulation. Several insects are harmful to cellulosic polymers in an essentially similar way, notably boring beetles and termites. 

Control of corn rootworm was obtained in a unique way by the spraying of tiny plastic tubes dropped by plane or helicopter. The tubes were coated by a three-part mixture consisting of a synthetic sex pheromone to lure the male beetles, compounds from the squash and cucumber family to encourage feeding, and a minute amount of an appropriate insecticide.
