Bandage tape

The use of coatings applied in the form of tape is also increasing. Polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride films, either self adhesive or else supporting films of butyl adhesive, petrolatum or butyl mastic are in use as materials applied cold at ambient temperatures. Woven glass fibre or nylon bandage is also used to support films of filled asphalt or coal tar and these are softened by propane gas torches and applied to the steel surface hot, cooling to form a thick conforming adherent layer. 

Iodine has anti-infective action against many bacteria, fungi, viruses, yeasts, and protozoa. Fbvidone-iodine (Betadine) is a combination of iodine and povidone, which liberates free iodine. Fbvidone-iodine is often preferred over iodine solution or tincture because it is less irritating to the skin. Unlike with the use of iodine, treated areas may be bandaged or taped.

If you share a bed with the vaccinated person, be sure that they are wearing a gauze bandage held in place with first aid adhesive tape over the vaccination site. As an extra precaution, the person who got the vaccine can wear a shirt or pajamas that cover the bandaged vaccine site. If they do not, you may choose to sleep in a separate bed. (When involved in direct patient care, healthcare workers should cover the gauze with a semipermeable dre.ssing as an additional barrier.)...

Today, even in the most developed countries, natural adhesives dominate the market because they are less expensive than synthetic-based materials, and they perform the intended function. Natural rubber is still the most widely used base material in pressure-sensitive adhesives. The first such modern uses were flypaper to trap flying insects, and medical bandages and tapes. Because of restrictions on the use of pesticides in many countries, both natural rubber and sticky synthetic materials have returned full circle to one of their original uses in trapping rodents and other small mammals. Natural rubber solvent solution adhesives are widely used throughout the world as general-purpose adhesives.

The earliest PSA tapes began to make their appearance at the turn of the century. Most popular were the cloth tapes used in medical applications, holding bandages and appliances in place. All these were based on natural rubber/tackifier formulations reinforced with zinc oxide [2,3].

Several selected GLS Corporation elastomer products have proven well suited, especially as elastomer film and sheets in medical applications. When handling blood or other infectious materials, you must take extra precautions to prevent exposures. Cover all wounds, cuts, abrasions, and scrapes with bandages that have a nonabsorbent top cover, such as a Band-Aid or tape. Find out if any nonaqueous chemicals are used in the process and ensure that these gloves are adequate for protection from these as well. (See Sections 7.1.3 and 7.2.2 for more about gloves.)... 

Latex products are derived from a liquid that comes from rubber trees (natural rubber). Latex is widely used in today s modern world—elastic bands in clothing and undergarments, latex or rubber gloves, balloons, baby bottle nipples, rubber bands, toys, condoms, bandages and tapes, and disposable diapers and other products. 

Medical use of rosin derivatives on tapes, bandages, surgical and dental dressings, wart paints (Lachapelle and Leroy 1990) and hydrocolloid dressings has been reported (Sasseville et al. 1997). For several hydrocolloid dressings, the allergen is a modified ester of colophony, the pentaerythrite ester (Hausen and Kulenkamp 1998). Most patients with a sensitisation to colophony report intolerance of brown coloured tapes. However, we have not found any report of occupational contact dermatitis to medical colophony resin adhesives.
