There are two generic types of automatic sampling system, namely batch or intermittent (off-line) and continuous (on-line). 

AAS (Perkin Elmer 3030) with atomization unit HGA 500 and automatic sampling system AS 40. Graphite tubes with L vov platform (Perkin Elmer). Injection volume 20 nL.

Direct determination - pumping the water directly into the Automatic Sampling System. 

The 24-h-a-day unattended operation is made possible by automatic sampling systems and intelligent supervisory diagnostics. The only planned intermptions in the operation of the analyzer should be the calibration/recalibration and the maintenance. 

There are two types of automatic sampling systems (see Fig. 1). Both systems can produce representative samples if properly designed and operated. One system locates the extracting device directly in the main line, whereas the other system locates the extracting device in a sample loop.

This practice includes the selection, installation, and maintenance of automatic sampling systems. 

Typically, all of the above routines employ interactive operator direction with subsequent execution. However, complete analysis routines are often predesigned and automatically executed to accommodate automatic sampling systems and batch analyses.
