Hewlett-Packard automatic sampling system

Analytical. Samples were chromatographed on a Hewlett-Packard 5880A gas chromatograph which was fitted with a 30M fused silica capillary column (DBS) and an automatic sampler. The GC was interfaced to a Hewlett-Packard 3354 Laboratory Automation System (LAS). Raw data was automatically transferred to the LAS where peaks were selected by retention time, integrated and stored in a processed file. Processed data was then transferred... 

The ESI-FT-ICR-MS and automatic sampler were coupled through a fused silica capillary (75 pm internal diameter, 365 pm external diameter). The samples were injected into the continuous solvent stream (flow rate 30 pL/min, 60% acetonitrile, 40% water, each with 0.1 % formic acid) by the automatic sample injector of the HPLC system (Hewlett Packard, HP-1100 series). Measurements with a known compound collection provided the data for three-point calibration of the mass spectrometer. 

The chromatographie system eonsisted of a quaternary pump, an automatic sample injector (Hewlett-Packard 1050 Series, Palo Alto, CA, USA) and a programmable fluorimetric detector (Hewlett-Packard, 1046 Series). The detector was linked to a data system (Hewlett-Paekard, HPLC ChemStation) for data acquisition and calculation. According to the results of preliminary experiments obtained by injecting directly into the analytical column standard solutions of PAHs, the deteetor was programmed to measure the fluorescence intensity at the exeitation/emission wavelengths pairs listed in Table 1.
