Liquid waste atomization can be achieved by any of the following atomizers rotary cup single-fluid pressure two-fluid, low-pressure air (internal mix) two-fluid, high-pressure air or steam (internal mix) and two-fluid, high-pressure air or steam (external mix). [Pg.151]

Rotatory power n. The power of rotating the plane of polarized light, given in general by 6/1 where 9 is the total rotation which occurs in a distance 1. The molecular or atomic rotary power is the product of the specific rotatory power by the molecular or atomic weight. Magnetic rotatory power is given by... [Pg.850]

Aqueous solutions buffered to a pH of 5.2 and containing known total concentrations of Zn + are prepared. A solution containing ammonium pyrrolidinecarbodithioate (APCD) is added along with methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK). The mixture is shaken briefly and then placed on a rotary shaker table for 30 min. At the end of the extraction period the aqueous and organic phases are separated and the concentration of zinc in the aqueous layer determined by atomic absorption. The concentration of zinc in the organic phase is determined by difference and the equilibrium constant for the extraction calculated. [Pg.449]

Rotary Kiln Incinerators. The rotary kiln has been used to incinerate a large variety of Hquid and soHd industrial wastes. Any Hquid capable of being atomized by steam or air can be incinerated, as well as heavy tars, sludges, pallets, and filter cakes. This abiUty to accept diverse feeds is the outstanding feature of the rotary kiln and, therefore, this type of incinerator is often selected by the chemical and waste treatment industries. [Pg.46]

Thermal decomposition of spent acids, eg, sulfuric acid, is required as an intermediate step at temperatures sufficientiy high to completely consume the organic contaminants by combustion temperatures above 1000°C are required. Concentrated acid can be made from the sulfur oxides. Spent acid is sprayed into a vertical combustion chamber, where the energy required to heat and vaporize the feed and support these endothermic reactions is suppHed by complete combustion of fuel oil plus added sulfur, if further acid production is desired. High feed rates of up to 30 t/d of uniform spent acid droplets are attained with a single rotary atomizer and decomposition rates of ca 400 t/d are possible (98). [Pg.525]

The General Electric in-duct scmbbing (IDS) process involves the atomization of a slaked lime slurry, using a rotary disk atomizer A test at the 12 MWe scale at the Muskingum River Station of Ohio Power, performed in a duct with a 4.3-m cross section, achieved 50% SO2 removal with good lime utilization... [Pg.261]

Recent developments in rotary atomization include the use of semiconductive composites (qv) for the rotary cup permitting the constmction of a unit that does not produce an ignition spark when brought close to a grounded workpiece yet has the transfer efficiencies associated with a rotary atomizer. In addition, the use of the semiconductive material softens the electrostatic field and results in less edge buildup and better penetration into recess areas. Other systems use electronic means to effectively prevent arcing to grounded surfaces. [Pg.331]

Spray Drying and Agglomeration. Most instant coffee products are spray-dried. Stainless steel towers with a concurrent flow of hot ak and atomized extract droplets are utilized for this purpose. Atomization, through pressure nozzles, is controUed based on selection of the nozzles, properties of the extract, pressures used, bulk density, and capacity requkements. Low inlet ak temperatures (200—280°C) are preferred for best flavor quaHty. The spray towers must be provided with adequate dust coUection systems such as cyclones or bag filters. The dried particles are coUected from the conical bottom of the spray drier through a rotary valve and conveyed to bulk storage bins or packaging lines. Processors may screen the dry product to... [Pg.388]

Oil-, gas- and dual-fired boilers are available with a range of combustion appliances. The smaller units have pressure jet-type burners with a turndown of about 2 1 while larger boilers may have rotary cup, medium pressure air (MPA) or steam-atomizing burners producing a turndown ratio of between 3 1 and 5 1, depending upon size and fuel. The majority has rotary cup-type burners, while steam- or air-atomizing burners are used where it is essential that the burner firing is not interrupted even for the shortest period. [Pg.351]

Dimethyl-l-tosyl-6,7-dihydro-l//-l,2-diazepine (1.164 g, 4.19 mmol) was added to NaOEt prepared from Na (0.16 g, 6.96 m-atom) and EtOH (20 mL). The solvent was removed on a rotary evaporator at... [Pg.347]

Jet Separator The jet separator contains two capillary tubes that are aligned with a small space (ca. 1 mm) between them. A vacuum is created between the tubes by using a rotary pump. The GC effluent passes through one capillary tube into the vacuum region. Those molecules that continue in the same direction will enter the second capillary tube and will be directed to the ion source. Enrichment occurs because the less massive carrier gas (He) atoms are more easily collisionally diverted from the linear path than the more massive analyte molecules. [Pg.202]
