The Atlas Type FDA-IR Fadeometer is used primarily to check and compare color stability. Besides determining the stability of various pigments needed to provide both standard and custom colors, the Fadeometer is helpful in preliminary studies of various stabilizers, dyes, and pigments compounded in plastics to prolong their useful life. [Pg.331]

The agitation studies for PET depolymerization were performed in the Atlas Launder-ometer. The Launder-ometer is a device for rotating closed containers in a thermostatically controlled water bath. The procedure used in these experiments was adapted from an American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists (AATCC) standard test method. The 5% sodium hydroxide solution (250 mL) was preheated to 80°C in a 1-pint stainless steel jar. The catalysts were added in the following amounts in separate experiments TOMAC (0.04 g, 0.0001 mol) TOMAB (0.045 g, 0.0001 mol) and HTMAB (0.045 g, 0.0001 mol). The PET fiber specimens (1.98 g, 0.01 mol) were placed in the containers along with ten -in. stainless steel balls to aid in the agitation process. The jars were sealed in the Launder-ometer, whose bath was at the desired temperature (80°C). The machine was allowed to run for the allowed treatment times (i.e., 30, 60, 90, 150, and 240 min) at 42 rpm. Upon decanting, any residual fibers... [Pg.561]

Ginical testing starts with Phase I studies on healthy subjects and seeks to determine whether effects observed in animal experiments also occur in humans. Dose-response relationships are determined. In Phase n, potential drugs are first tested on selected patients for Ltillmann, Color Atlas of Pharmacology... [Pg.6]

Biochemistry is a dynamic, rapidly growing field, and the goal of this color atlas is to illustrate this fact visually. The precise boundaries between biochemistry and related fields, such as cell biology, anatomy, physiology, genetics, and pharmacology, are dif cult to define and, in many cases, arbitrary. This overlap is not coincidental. The object being studied is often the same—a nerve cell or a mitochondrion, for example—and only the point of view differs. [Pg.473]

A series of studies demonstrates a synergistic effect between drug therapies and psychodynamic talk therapies. The effectiveness of each form of therapy used independently is less than their combined use in the case of major depression. See A. In principle, if each of the compounds contributing to NOy is individually measured, their concentrations should sum up to the measured NOy. While this is sometimes the case, in many field studies the sum has been found to be less than the measured NO, (e.g., Fahey et al., 1986 Ridley et al., 1990a Atlas et al., 1992 Parrish et al., 1993 Sandholm etal., 1994 Nielsen et al., 1995 Williams et al., 1997). Cases where the sum of the individual components is significantly less than the NO> measured simultaneously are often referred to as missing NO, . ... [Pg.571]

The results of a major epidemiological study of the geographical variations in the occurrence throughout China of a wide variety of different types of cancer have recently been published in the form of an atlas (146). One result of this survey was the revelation of a very high, but very localized, incidence of esophageal cancer in the Linxian valley of Henan province in northern China (146,147). Esophageal cancer also exhibits very high incidence in a number of other localities in both Asia and Africa (148), but the Chinese occurrence has so far attracted the most international attention. [Pg.387]
