A study by the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) assessed the environmental impacts of mechanical and feedstock recycling and energy recovery of waste plastics. It was compared in terms of consumption of resomces and environmental emission pollution potential. The criteria of consumption of energetically exploitable resources and contribution to the greenhouse effect lead to the following order of preference for feedstock recycling and energy recovery processes ... [Pg.262]

The Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) has produced a series of ecoprofile reports on various plastics, including packaging materials. APME adopted the term ecoprofile since the analysis extends only to the point of sale and does not cover disposal. Also, the reports do not include the impact or improvement portions of life-cycle assessment. The reports are publicly available on the association website, www.apme.org and are updated periodically. [Pg.168]

The Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) tracks plastics recycling statistics for the overall European market. Table 14.3 shows historical data from APME for the recovery and recycling of postuse plastics in Europe [16]. The full report can be found on the APME website www.apme.org. The total percentage of plastics diverted from landfill in 1990 was 23%, inaeasing to 32% in 1999. Energy recovery was the predominate method of recovery followed... [Pg.571]

The polymeric part of the household waste consists of more than 90 wt% of thermoplastics (mainly from plastics packaging) and less than 10% of thermosets. The composition of the household plastics waste and packaging plastics, respectively, from different countries is shown in Table 1. The data were gathered in a study ordered by the Association of Plastics Manufacturers in Europe (APME) [1] and in other investigations [2-7]. The results show that polyolefins (PE, PP) have the highest proportion in the municipal waste. The other polymeric components present in larger quantities are... [Pg.191]
