Architectural style

The geometry of the capsomeres results in their assembly into particles exhibiting one of two different architectural styles—helical or icosahedral symmetry (Fig. 3.2). 

For example, layered architectures frequently use a special notation. A catalog of such architectural styles can be built in a way that s much like the use of frameworks in Section 9.8.2, Stereotypes and Dialects. 

There are many different architectural views of a system, calling for different kinds of elements. These elements include hardware and networks, packages and their structures, object types and relationships, concurrent processes and threads, tables and columns, and the patterns that dictate how they are to be used. An architectural style, or type, defines a consistent set of elements and rules for their use. 

Using components and connectors to define architectural styles was introduced in [Allen94] and elaborated in [Shaw96], Component connectors appear in a number of patterns in [PLoP]. Our definition of them in terms of actions appeared in [Wills97a]. 

Metals, which are also nonrenewable and use energy-intensive production processes, are best reserved for special applications for example, around balconies and roof gardens where their strength and lightness is essential. Decorative ironwork may also be required to preserve the architectural style of a building it can often be found in salvage yards.

Journalists covering subsequent battles between political foes have deliberately used politicians dachas as backdrops for their news reports. Not only do dachas make good visuals, but journalists and political activists have reframed discussions of architectural styles and locations into commentaries on politicians presumed sympathies and agendas (Pankin 2005a, 2005b). As news accounts hinted, whether politicians chose classical or modern design styles seemed to be a good indication of their political inclinations. 

Flat-roof buildings are a popular architectural style in dry climates because of the economy of materials of construction. Account for all the parts in your division or classification. Don t, for instance, claim to classify all the evergreen trees native to your hometown and then leave out one or more species. For a short essay, narrow your ruling principle rather than omit categories. You couldn t, for instance, classify all the architectural styles in America in a short paper, but you might discuss the major styles on your campus. In the same manner, the enormous task of classifying all types of mental illness could be narrowed to the most common forms of childhood schizophrenia. However you narrow your topic, remember that in a formal classification, all the parts must be accounted for. 

Abstract. Service-oriented architectures define an architectural style for the construction of a heterogeneous application landscape. By abstracting services, business processes are decoupled from the underlying applications. This section describes how the results of the IMPROVE subproject 13, related to the model-driven development process for wrapper construction, are transferred and extended to the area of business process applications. We present an approach which yields a prototype to formally specify service descriptions and service compositions. This prototype makes it possible to evaluate and explore service-oriented architecture concepts. 

This subsection sketches an approach for an integrated business application architecture. The architecture is built from a set of existing legacy systems and follows a service-oriented architectural style. We show how the model-driven wrapper development approach (cf. Subsect. 5.7.4) can be applied to the problem of designing such an architecture.

How could you work out, if you wanted to, what kind of architectural style was typical of some period in history It turns out that you do not really have to study the aesthetic views of that epoch. All you need is just some knowledge of the mechanical properties, the elasticity and strength, of the building materials used at that time. 

Architectural styles have changed dramatically over time. The many different styles are an indication of the changing needs for space and aesthetics. In many cases, aesthetic values were tied to cultures (Figure 19-13). At other times, styles evolved over time to adapt to specific climates and available natural resources. 

Regardless of the architectural style, aU styles combine elements and principles of design. These elements and principles include form, texture, rhythm, balance, proportion, and unity. Form is the principle of design that is described by lines and geometric shapes. The form of a structure is often dictated by its function. Texture refers to the roughness or smoothness, including reflective properties, of a material or building. 

Architectural styles vary from one part of the country to another. With your teacher s permission, search the Web for famous houses and buildings that represent these different styles arts and crafts, bungalow. Cape Cod, farmhouse, federal, Georgian, modern. Queen Anne, ranch, saltbox, Spanish, split-level, Tudor, and Victorian. For example, what style is the White House ... 

Assemble a portfolio of architectural styles. Include in your portfolio small photos that represent each style. Remember that... 

Architectural styles combine elements and principles of design. These elements and principles include form, texture, rhythm, balance, proportion, and unity. 

This reopens the lost conceptual and structural possibilities of the bauhaus architectural style for architects, and reduces construction costs [18]. 

We are based in the dynamic yet conveniently compact city of Manchester, located at the heart of a sophisticated transport network including a major international airport on the outskirts. Parts of the campus are acclaimed for their architectural style and date back over 150 years, in direct contrast to our teaching style which is thoroughly modern, innovative and forward-thinking. 

Domain-specific synthesis tools which fully exploit the characteristics of the target architecture style and the corresponding application domain. The tools will frequently differ for the alternative target styles. For instance, a scheduler that is efficient for one style may be unsuitable or inefficient for another. 

In order to provide complete support for the high-level synthesis trajectory, many design problems must be addressed. We do not claim that the material presented in this book covers the complete path, and certainly not all target application domains or architecture styles. However, we do believe we have contributed to the solution of a number of the most crucial problems in the domains of architecture synthesis and the related issue of behavioral specification.
