Spectra applications

Meanwhile, a wide variety of cinchona alkaloid derivatives have been systematically developed as chiral selectors, which complement each other in their enantiomer discrimination profiles. Considering the variety of derivatives, an overall reasonably broad applicability spectrum, approximating for chiral acids a 100% success rate, is yielded and extreme enantiorecognition levels (a-values above 15) could be realized for some chiral solutes with certain selectors. Moreover, various studies carried out with the CHIRALPAK QD/QN-AX columns in industry and academia clearly document their practical usefulness for solving challenging real-life problems and this should be illustrated by the present review article as well. [Pg.7]

A number of nonnatural amino acids were resolved into individual enantiomers on 0-9-(2,6-diisopropylphenylcarbamoyl)quinine-based CSPby Peter and coworkers [48,90,113,114] after derivatization with Sanger s reagent, chloroformates (DNZ-Cl, FMOC-Cl, Z-Cl), Boc-anhydride, or acyl chlorides (DNB-Cl, Ac-Cl, Bz-Cl). For example, the four stereoisomers of P-methylphenylalanine, P-methyltyrosine, P-methyltryptophan, and P-methyl-l,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid could be conveniently resolved as various A-derivatives [113]. The applicability spectrum of cinchonan carbamate CSPs comprises also P-amino carboxylic acid derivatives, which were, for example, investigated by Peter et al. [114]. A common trend in terms of elution order of DNP-derivatized P-amino acids was obeyed in the latter study On the utilized quinine carbamate-based CSP, the elution order was S before R for 2-aminobutyric acid, while it was R before S for the 3-amino acids having branched R substituents such as wo-butyl, iec-butyl, tert-butyl, cyclohexyl, or phenyl residues. [Pg.72]

The demand for bromine-containing chemicals for different sectors has strongly shifted in recent years, partly due to environmental considerations. This is demonstrated by the evolution in the application spectrum for bromine consumption in the USA in the period 1980 to 1993 shown in Table 1.7-24. [Pg.176]

World-wide, comparatively limited screening effort is devoted to discovery of completely new, so far unknown subclasses of enzymes (see also section 6). To make use of the opportunities still hidden in the vast unexplored part of biodiversity, the new approaches using molecular biology techniques can yield exciting and unexpected new types of biocatalysts with interesting synthetic abilities. In order to widen the application spectrum of chemistry and biotechnology, the screening efforts should be enforced in both academic and industrial research. [Pg.185]

Hybrid Systems. Combinations of water-soluble and water-dispersed binders may be used to achieve synergistic effects (e.g., to control the amount of organic solvents or the application behavior). Polymer dispersions or powdered binders may be used as water-dispersible binders [3.43]. The use of polymer dispersions allows the solids content of water-soluble binders to be increased, the level of organic solvents to be reduced, and the physical drying time to be shortened. The use of water-soluble binders provides a broad application spectrum and yields paint films with well-balanced properties. [Pg.112]

New families of nanofillers and nanocomposites are opening up performance reserves of plastics, rubbers and dispersions. Even very low nanofiller % by volume can suffice to alter the property profiles of polymeric materials and functional additives in significant ways. The application spectrum extends from new construction materials to a diversity of functional polymers [77, 106],... [Pg.138]

Naturally, this book doesn t claim to be complete. The application spectrum of hydrogen is broadly based and in future new potentials will be developed. [Pg.291]

The application spectrum of DHBCs is extended into a wide range of nanomedicine and nanotechnology oriented fields. Considering, the increasing interest for water compatible systems, further increase of DHBCs utilization in emerging technological applications is expected. The outstanding aqueous solution properties of DHBCs have already started to be utilized in a number of applications and these trends will be enhanced in the future. [Pg.322]
