If these are not within the correct range, one does not obtain single crystal growth. This method has been used in the past only because of its relative simplicity of apparatus and materials. However, the quality of crystals so-produced has been rather poor. Ciystels produced by this method are suitable for structure determinations, but are poor in optiCcd quality and are notat all suited for electronic applications. 

APPARATUS AND MATERIALS. A Mettler DL40 memotitrator, DK19 Filter Titrator with filters and a DK181 Phototrode were purchased from M.S.E. Scientific Instruments, Crawley. Visible spectra were recorded on a Perkin Elmer Lambda 3 spectrophotometer.

Apparatus and Materials. A standard Stock-type high vacuum line was used, except for experiments with S03 or CH3NF2. In these cases stopcocks lubricated witn Kel F-90 grease were used, and pressures were measured with a Bourdon gage.

The accent must be on reliability and reproducibility, on speed and on simplicity.

During the course of a study a number of apparatus and materials will be utilised for various purposes. Technical equipment, instruments and apparatus will be required either directly for the generation, storage and retrieval of study data, or indirectly for the control and maintenance of suitable environmental conditions. Materials of the most varied kind, like bedding for animals, animal feed, test system containers, bags and jars for the collection of samples and specimens, spare and service parts for equipment, or protective clothing will have to be utilised in the test facilities and test sites, and these materials... 

Apparatus and materials used in a study should not interfere adversely with the test systems. 

Records must make it possible to trace all steps in the manufacture and testing of a lot, and should include records of sterilization of all apparatus and materials used in its manufacture. Distribution records must be kept in a manner that permits rapid recall of any particular lot if necessary. 

The use of paper as a chromatographic medium is usually regarded as a typical partition system, where the stationary phase is water, held by adsorption on cellulose molecules, which in turn are kept in a fixed position by the fibrous structure of the paper. It is now realised, however, that adsorption of components of the mobile phase and of solutes, and ion exchange effects, also play a part, and that the role of the paper is by no means merely that of an inert support. The technique devised by Consden et al. has not undergone any fundamental changes, but there has been considerable improvement in detail, resulting partly from the wide variety of commercial apparatus which is available. Elaborate or expensive equipment is not essential, however, and good results can be obtained with quite simple apparatus and materials.
