Antiemetics migraine

It is an effective antiemetic, which is a useful property in migraine treatment. 

If the oral route is unsuccessful, a rational alternative is to use suppositories of diclofenac 100 mg for pain and domperidone 30 mg for vomiting, although the diarrhoea that may accompany migraine would compromise their efficacy. Efficient use of an analgesic and an antiemetic is adequate for the majority of acute attacks. 

Uses. Metoclopramide is used for nausea and vomiting associated with gastrointestinal disorders, and with cytotoxic drugs and radiotherapy. It is also an effective antiemetic in migraine and is used as a prokinetic agent (see above). 

The distribution of tachykinin receptors in the body is widespread, and their blockade can have diverse actions. No antagonists are yet used in human therapeutics, though a number of trials are in progress. Proposed applications include as analgesics (particularly for arthritic and other inflammatory hyperalgesic pain), in the treatment of neurogenic inflammation and migraine, as antiemetics, as anxiolytics, antidepressants, for intestinal colic and inflammatory bowel disease, and for bladder hypermotility. 

Migraine can often be treated with paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin alone, or with combination products containing them. There are also some non-prescription medicines specifically licensed for the treatment of migraine. One such is a coformulation of paracetamol, codeine and the antihistamine buclizine, included for its antiemetic action. Other specific migraine treatments are reviewed below.
