This brief anecdote should serve to illustrate that its extensively interdisciplinary character is not only a strength of bio-EPR but also its Achilles heel. When the production of significant results requires comparable input efforts from different disciplines, there is an increased chance for the occurrence of time-wasting misunderstandings and errors. A less anecdotic example is the claim—frequently found in physics texts—that sensitivity of an EPR spectrometer increases with increasing microwave frequency. Although this statement may in fact be true for very specific boundary conditions—for example, when sensitivity stands for absolute sensitivity of low-loss samples of very small dimensions—when applied in the EPR of biological systems it can easily lead to considerable loss of time and money and to frustration on the part of the life science researcher, because it is simply not true at all for (frozen) solutions of biomolecules. 

Good paragraphs include details that support the main idea. Supporting details include anecdotes, examples, facts, opinions, quotations, and/or statistics that back up the paragraph s main idea. 

Many reasons, such as the expectation of a hostile media response, local political considerations, international pressures, or even personal aggrandizement can explain why poor-country politicians do not always do what is, seemingly, best for their people.4 There are probably thousands of examples of these decisions, such as recent rejections of well-planned, needed dam construction projects because of environmental destruction that accompanied poorly planned dams in years past. Examples and anecdotes are often useful an overreliance on personal experience or "war stories" loses attention. Similarly, an argument that tries to address every conceivable contingency, quirk, and variation will almost certainly fail to convince, because of simple overkill. 

The boundaries of these categories are not absolute an anecdote is often an example, and a reason can also be a fact. However, the categories are useful for discussing types of support and illustrating how to substantiate your assertions in a variety of ways. 

Both of these reasons are opinions, and they need support to be convincing. The writer must use evidence to show that these opinions are logical and reasonable. To support the first reason, he could define the right to privacy (a combination of specific examples, facts, and description) he could provide an example or describe a certain situation where a search led to a violation of privacy (specific example, anecdote) and provide expert opinion.

Like lawyers in a courtroom trial, essay writers need to provide evidence for their assertions. That evidence can come in the form of specific examples, facts, reasons, descriptions and anecdotes, expert opinion and analysis, and quotations from the text. 

By using specific personal examples, facts, and anecdotes, this type of assertion can have a legitimate place in your essay.
