Cotterill [100] studied the effect of ammonium nitrate fertilizer on the electron capture or nitrogen specific gas chromatographic determination of Triazine plus other types of herbicide (Atrazine(2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino, 1,3,5 triazine), Simazine (2-chloro-4.6 bis ethyl amino 1,3,5 triazine), Linuron (3,4,-chlorophenyl-l-methoxy-l-methyl urea), Metribuzin, Triallate and Phorate) residues in soil.

Janthinellum yielded 2-chloro-4-amino-6-isopropylamino-5-triazine and Rhizopus stolonifer yielded 2-chloro-4-(ethylamino)-6-amino-5-triazine (Paris and Lewis, 1973). Atrazine was transformed by the culture Nocardia forming 2-chloro-4-amino-5-triazine (Giardina et al, 1980,1982). 

In the presence of hydroxy or perhydroxy radicals generated from Fenton s reagent, atrazine undergoes oxidative dealkylation in aqueous solutions (Kaufman and Kearney, 1970). Major products identified by GC/MS included deisopropylatrazine (2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-amino-s-triazine), 2-chloro-4-amino-6-isopropylamino-5-triazine, and a dealkylated dealkylatrazine (2-chloro-4,6-diamino-s-triazine) (Kaufman and Kearney, 1970). 

When rats were administered atrazine in drinking water at 0.1, 0.2, or 0.5 g/1 for 1 or 3 weeks, they excreted as the principal metabolite 2 -chloro-4-ethylamino-6-amino-s-triazine. They found that the electrolytic conductivity... 

Hormann et al. [157] monitored various European rivers for levels of Atrazine, Terbumeton and dealkylated metabolites GS26571 (2-amino-4-tertbutylammo-5-methoxy-l,3,5-triazine) and GS30033 (2-amino-4-chloro-5-ethylamino-l,3,5-triazine). The compounds were extracted into dichloromethane and quantitated by gas chromatography with nitrogen-specific detection. Selected results were verified by gas chromatography with mass fragmentographic detection. The limit of detection was usually 0.4pg L 1.

EPTC was degraded at an intermediate rate in butylate-history or carbofuran (2,3-dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-7 benzofuranyl methylcarbamate)-history soils. Previous carbofuran use did not reduce EPTC performance at Clay Center in 1984 (ljj). Prior soil treatment with atrazine (6-chloro-N-ethyl-N1-(l-methylethyl)-l,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine), cyanazine (2-[[4-chloro-6-(ethylamino)-l,3,5-triazin-2-yl]] amino]-2-methylpropanenitrile), metolachlor (2-chloro-N-(2-ethyl-6-methylphenyl)-N-(2-methoxy-1-methylethyl)acetamide), alachlor (2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-N-(methoxymethyl)acetamide) or cycloate (S-ethyl cyclohexylethylcarbamothioate) did not affect EPTC degradation. At Scottsbluff, EPTC degradation was equally enhanced in EPTC-history, vernolate-history, or butylate-history soils, but was not affected by the other pesticides. 

Among the 2-chloro-4,6-bis(alkylamino)-i-triazines with two different substituent side-chains, 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-isopropylamino-i-triazine (atrazine, 8) is the most active, and followed, in decreasing order of activity, by 2-chloro-4-ethylamino-6-5ec-butylamino-i-triazine (sebuthylazine, 9) and 2-chloro-4-ethyl-amino-6-/-butylamino-j-triazine (terbuthylazine, 10).
