A serious problem with some vegetables and particularly with fruit as a source of protein is the dilution of protein with carbohydrates so that an inordinate amount of calories must be consumed to obtain the needed amount of protein and amino acids for human growth. A survey of calories and protein content/100 g fresh weight of several different leaves, pods, seeds and tubers is shown in Table VIII. This indicates the desirability of certain leaves, pods and seeds over tubers, for example, as a protein source. [Pg.231]

Two stable radical intermediates are observed following gamma radiolysis at 303 K. The alpha carbon radical VIII and the side chain radical IX are formed in approximately equal yields, with the total G-value for radical production equal to 3.2. This value is similar to that observed for the poly acids. The observed radicals are those which would be expected on the basis of the aliphatic carboxylic acids and previous studies of the poly amino acids with aliphatic side chains. [Pg.92]

The endoxylanase gene from Thermoanaerobacter strain B6A was sequenced and structural interpretations were deduced from computer analysis of the amino acid sequence (see Table VIII). The endoglucanase is hydrophilic and has compact secondary structure with 30 6-tums and five potential glycosylation sites. [Pg.49]

Phenylpropanamide (130), from the aposematic beetle (genus Metrior-rhynchus) (Table VIII), has been purified by gas chromatography from the methanol extract. Its structure is presumed from mass spectral data and was confirmed by comparison with a synthetic sample (97). The co-occurrence of amide 130 and l-methyl-2-quinolone (57) in this beetle suggests a common pathway of biosynthesis and that they may be derived from the amino acid phenylalanine. [Pg.289]

Various amino acids are also used as stabilizing agents for some biopharmaceutical products (Table 3.24). Glycine is most often employed and it (as well as other amino acids) has been found to help stabilize various interferon preparations, as well as erythropoietin, factor VIII,... [Pg.151]

Purification entails use of an immunoaffinity column containing immobilized murine antifactor VII antibody. It is initially produced as an unactivated, single chain 406 amino acid polypeptide, which is subsequently proteolytically converted into the two-chain active factor Vila complex. After sterilization by filtration, the final product is aseptically filled into its final product containers and freeze-dried. The excipients present in the product include sodium chloride, calcium chloride, polysorbate 80, mannitol and glycylglycine. When freeze-dried in the presence of these stabilizing substances and stored under refrigerated conditions, the product displays a shelf-life of at least 2 years. It has proved effective in the treatment of serious bleeding events in patients displaying anti-factor VIII or IX antibodies. [Pg.371]

Alternative routes for the multi-step preparation of 6-p F]fluoro-L-DOPA (given here as an example and also applicable to other amino acids) include the use of enantioselective benzylations using either a chiral auxiliary [Scheme 45, Pathway B (i) (ii) (iv) (viii)] [207-209] or a chiral phase transfer catalyst [Scheme 45, Pathway C (i) (ii) (v) (viii)] [210-212], The latter approach, avoiding the use of dry reagents, is well suited to automation and enables the production of more than 200 mCi (7.4 GBq) of 6-p F]fluoro-L-DOPA from 1.5 Ci (55.5 GBq) of starting [ F]fluoride [213]. [Pg.40]

A comparison of the amino acid sequencing of the NH2-terminal regions of the core proteins of PG-II from bovine articular cartilage, sclera, skin, tendon, human skin and post-bum scars, fetal membrane, bone, and cartilage are shown in Table VIII.
