Pumping device, alternating

The subject of the study can be either a single energy-using device, such as a pump, or an entire ventilation system with all its components. A study focuses on the life cycle of the system or device, and normally is a comparison of two or more alternatives. The goal is to find the most economical solution on the basis of the total costs (investment and operation). [Pg.1373]

Today belts are used in automobiles to drive aux-iliaiy devices such as air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, the alternator, and the cooling fluid pump. Belts also can be found in household appliances such as vacuum sweepers, on lathes in machine shops, or inside copying machines. [Pg.789]

The carbon arc apparatus is shown schematically in Figure 10.2.2. The reaction chamber, which is usually made of stainless steel, is connected to vacuum pumps and a gas supply line through valves. The front of the chamber has an observation window to enable monitoring the arc discharge (19). Electrodes, mounted on the end flanges, are supported horizontally. Alternatively, the electrodes can be fixed vertically (20). The electrodes and chamber walls can be cooled by water-cooling devices if necessary. [Pg.574]

Another alternative would be to visit an automotive repair shop. Internal combustion engines, lifts, levers, and hand tools are only a few of the types of mechanical devices you could see in use. Yet another possibility would be to visit a local manufacturer in your town. Examples include a foundry, a sheet metal fabricator, an automotive manufacturer, or a pump manufacturer. Look in the phone book under manufacturing for possibilities. [Pg.213]

The sorbent tube is placed near the worker s breathing zone, and the outlet of the tube is attached to a calibrated personal sampling pump. A known volume of air is drawn through the tube. Alternatively, several passive charcoal badges are currently commercially available. No sampling pump is required for these devices,... [Pg.179]
