Yin and Chen (2001) have studied different experimental designs for dose proportionality and have concluded that alternate panel designs wherein the same... [Pg.153]

The sweetness of fmctose is 1.3—1.8 times that of sucrose (10). This property makes fmctose attractive as an alternative for sucrose and other commercially available sweeteners. Fmctose is probably sweetest ia comparison with sucrose when cold and freshly made up ia low concentrations at a slightly acidic pH (5). This relative sweetness difference is commonly attributed to changes ia fmctose stmcture when cold ( P-D-fmctopyranose(l), sweet) as compared to the stmcture when the sweetener is warm ( P-D-fmctofuranose (2), less sweet). Based on nmr spectroscopy and sensory panel evaluation of sweetness, however, it has been observed that the absolute sweetness of fmctose is the same at 5°C as at 50°C, and is not dependent on anomeric distribution (11). Rather, it maybe the sweetness of sucrose, which changes with temperature, that gives fmctose sweetness the appearance of becoming sweeter at low temperatures. [Pg.44]

You should consider obtaining internal and external quality assurance reviews of the study (to ferret out errors in modeling, data, etc.). Independent peer reviews of the QRA results can be helpful by presenting alternate viewpoints, and you should include outside experts (either consultants or personnel from another plant) on the QRA review panel. You should also set up a mechanism wherein disputes between QRA team members (e.g., technical arguments about safety issues) can be voiced and reconciled. All of these factors play an essential role in producing a defendable, high-quality QRA. Once the QRA is complete, you must formally document your response to the project team s final report and any recommendations it contains. [Pg.28]

Rigid polyurethane foams used in refrigerators and freezers - Alternatives include hydrocarbons (pentane) and HCFC-141b long-term alternatives include HFCs (134a, -245, -356, -365). Vacuum panels may be used in the future. [Pg.34]

Sandwich panels of rigid polyurethane - HCFC- 141b, HCFC-22, blends of HCFC-22 and -141b, pentane, and HFC-134a are now used as alternatives to CFCs in this application. In the long term, HFCs and carbon dioxide/water will be the replacement technologies. [Pg.34]

Fire Protection FIVE and FRANC support quantitative and qualitative fire risk, assessmeiil. FRANC also supports the analysis of alternative safe shutdown paths during an Appendix R review. System train availability is exhibited on a system status panel, Using this a strategy can be defined to upgrade Thcrnm 1. if identify risk significant areas. [Pg.145]

Simply bonding a stiffener to a panel with adhesive is certainly a very feasible and natural procedure with typical composite structure construction. We have not discussed any procedure for joining parts except co-curing. Alternatively, to use film adhesive for bonding parts together, we simply cut a sheet or film of adhesive to the proper size, place it between the two parts that we wish to bond together, and then go through a cure cycle that causes the adhesive to adhere to both the stiffener and to the panel itself. We can also mechanically fasten any stiffener we like to a panel. [Pg.405]

The content and organization of the displayed information are of critical importance in inferring the state of the process and subsequently evaluating the effects of alternative courses of action. The following factors will determine the demands of the control panel on the attentional and memory resources of the workers. For detailed data on the design of the control panel, the reader is referred to standard ergonomics textbooks (e.g., Salvendy, 1987). [Pg.120]

On an industrial scale, perchlorates are now invariably produced by the electrolytic oxidation of NaClOs (see Panel, p. 867). Alternative routes have historical importance but are now only rarely used, even for small-scale laboratory syntheses. [Pg.865]

This is an open area packing with multiple layers of lattice-type panels. This grid, as described by the manufacturer s bulletin, consists of vertical, slanted, and horizontal planes of metal. The vertical strips have horizontal flanges oriented alternately right and left. Due to the random overlap, the vapor path must zig-zag through the bed. [Pg.337]

For MTHW and HTFIW systems, heat emitters may be as for LTFIW systems, except that, for safety reasons, units with accessible surfaces at water temperature would not normally be employed. Embedded panel coils may be used in conjunction with a MTHW or HTHW distribution system, with insulating sleeves around the coil piping to reduce the heat flow. Alternatively, the coils can be operated as reduced temperature secondary systems by allowing only a small, carefully controlled proportion of flow temperature water to be mixed with the water circulating in the coils. [Pg.408]

FIGURE 11.15 Aikake s information criteria (AIC) calculations. Lower panel shows three dose-response curves that can alternately be fit to a three-parameter logistic such that each curve is fit to its own particular value of maximum and slope (individual fits), with common maxima but individual slopes (common maxima), or with common maxima and slope. The IAC values (Equation 11.30) for the fits are shown in the table above the figure. It can be seen that the lowest value corresponds to the fit with common maxima and slope. Therefore, this fit is preferred. [Pg.243]

Clean and aseptic areas must be adequately illuminated lights are best housed above transparent panels set in a false ceiling. Electrical switches and sockets should fit flush to the wall. When required, gases should be piped into the area from outside the unit. Pipes and ducts, if they have to be brought into the clean area, must be effechvely sealed through the walls. Additionally they must either be boxed in (which prevents dust accumulation) or readily cleanable. Alternatively, pipes and ducts may be sited above false ceilings. [Pg.432]

An assay used to determine the relative potency of active or lead compounds towards an alternative target. A selectivity assay (or panel of assays) may include targets of the same family or unrelated targets. [Pg.81]
