Aloe-emodin rhubarb

Rheum officinale Baill. R. koreanum Nakai R. palmatum L. R. tanguticum Maxim R. undulatum L. Tai Huang (Rhubarb) (rhizome) Anthraquinones, chrysophanol, emodin, physcion, aloe-emodin, rhein, chrysophenol, rheum tannic acid, gallic acid, calechin, bianthraquinonyl, sennosides (R. undulatum also contains rhaponticin).1 33 236,510 This herb may be toxic. Potent laxative, antibacterial, anthelmintic, anticancer, stimulate the large intestine and increase the movement of luminal contents toward the anus, resulting in defecation. Antispasmodic, choleretic, hemostatic, diuretic, lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol level. [Pg.139]

Five hydroxyanthroquinone derivatives (aloe-emodin, rhein, emodin, chiysopha-nol, physcion) were extracted from rhubarb and baseline resolved on a C,g column (k = 254 nm). A 36/64 (hold 5.5 min) -> 80/20 (at 20.5 min hold 5 min) acetoni-trile/water (36mM triethylamine to pH 2.5 with H3PO4) gradient was used. Peak shapes were excellent. The calibration range ran from 0.5 to 40 pg/mL [1228]. [Pg.439]

System 1 required development to 18 cm (100 min) with light petroleum (40-60 C)-ethyl acetate-formic acid (75 25 1) as the mobile phase. A representative separation of pigments from rhubarb is given in Fig. 25. It should be noted that this separation was achieved on a plate prepared in the laboratory. Such a plate is better for the separation of the polar pigments than corresponding commercial plates, where separation of rhein and aloe-emodin depends on development distance. [Pg.745]

In addition to emodins, rhubarb root also contains dimeric reduced forms of emodins derived from 10,10 -bianthronyl (9-167), which are called bianthrones (dianthraquinones). They can occur as homobianthrones, such as emodin bianthrone and parietin bianthrone, or as heterobianthrones (mixed dimers), such as pahnidin A (9-168), which is bianthrone of emodin and aloe-emodin. [Pg.723]

The main anthraquinone-containing plants are cascara sagrada Rhamnus purshiana), senna, rhubarb, aloes, dock and St John s wort. Rheum-emodin is a typical simple anthraquinone from rhubarb root Rheum palmatum). [Pg.48]
