Alloy custom

Some other bearing materials find extensive use for which production volume is less well defined. EiHed plastics such as nylon, acetal resin, PTEE, and phenoHcs are formed and molded into bearings in a wide variety of mechanical stmctures. Tin, lead, and bronze alloys are used for oil-film bearings in heavy industrial and power generating equipment, frequently in custom bearings manufactured directly as machine components. [Pg.1]

Because these alloys are precipitation hardenable, they can be customized for specific requirements across a wide range of property combinations. Advances in composition control, processing, and recycling technology have broadened the capabiUties and expanded the range of appHcation. Data sheets pubhshed by the manufacturers and others (41) give compositions, properties, and typical appHcations. [Pg.70]

Surface combustion devices are designed for fully premixing the gaseous fuel and air and burning it on a porous radiant surface. The close coupling of the combustion process with the burner surface results in low flame temperatures and, consequently, low NO formation. Surface materials can include ceramic fibers, reticulated ceramics, and metal alloy mats. This approach allows the burner shape to be customized to match the heat transfer profile with the application. [Pg.2392]

TPs come in greater variety than TSs. They also tend to be more readily to specialty compounding as copolymers, multipolymers, alloys and blends, often customized for cost-effective adaptation to specific application requirements. Unlike TSs, they are in most cases reprocessable without serious losses of properties. [Pg.425]

The corrosion allowance is the additional thickness of metal added to allow for material lost by corrosion and erosion, or scaling (see Chapter 7). The allowance to be used should be agreed between the customer and manufacturer. Corrosion is a complex phenomenon, and it is not possible to give specific rules for the estimation of the corrosion allowance required for all circumstances. The allowance should be based on experience with the material of construction under similar service conditions to those for the proposed design. For carbon and low-alloy steels, where severe corrosion is not expected, a minimum allowance of 2.0 mm should be used where more severe conditions are anticipated this should be increased to 4.0 mm. Most design codes and standards specify a minimum allowance of 1.0 mm. [Pg.813]

In addition to the basic nylons, a variety of copolymers can be manufactured, some of which are commercially available. Nylons and nylon copolymers can be blended to form alloys with specific customized proper ties. [Pg.1128]

Solid solutions of two or more semiconductors are formed where the lattice sites are interdispersed with the solid solution components. In these systems, the band gap can be customized by means of changes in the solid solution composition. Examples of semiconductor alloys include GaN—ZnO (Maeda et al., 2005) ZnO-GeO (Domen and Yashima, 2007), ZnS—CdS (Kakuta et al., 1985), ZnS— AgInS2 (Tsuji et al., 2004), and CdS—CdSe (Kambe et al., 1984). [Pg.129]
