Alkyl polyglycosides characterization

Alkyl polyglycoside characterization by HPLC is routinely performed using an isocratic reversed-phase system. In most cases, no particular sample preparation is necessary after dissolution in the eluent, the sample solution is filtered and directly injected into the system. A typical chromatogram and the chromatographic conditions are shown in Figure 10.

The influence of surfactants on the barrier function of the epidermis either by deterioration of the functional structure or by elution of components (homy layer lipids, NMF) is characterized by evaporimeter measurements as a change of the natural transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
