Primary alkyl and benzyl fluorides are available from the corresponding primary amines via the pyridinium salts. Thus, pyrolysis of N-substituted 2,4,6-triphenylpyridinium fluorides and tetrafluoroborates, 2,4-diphenyl-5.6-dihydrobenzo[A]quinolinium tetrafluoroborates, and... [Pg.256]

In addition to the generation of phosphonium ylides from phosphonium salts by deprotonation with bases in some instances ylides may result from pyrolysis of phosphonium salts, especially silylated salts (equation 17). Similar fluoride ion induced desilylation (equation 18) of phosphonium salts proved to be a very useful alternative for the synthesis of ylides which are difficult to synthesize by the conventional salt method (as in the case of R, R = alkyl). - The most effective fluoride source is cesium fluoride and the reaction proceeds at room temperature. [Pg.175]

These compounds are synthesized by the copolymerization of tetrafluoroethylene and alkyl vinyl ether with sulfonyl acid fluoride. Preparation of sulfonyl acid fluoride takes place by pyrolysis of the respective oxide to give the olenfinated structure [7], The thermoplastic produced is extruded into a film. The sulfonyl fluoride (-S02F) group present in the thermoplastic is converted to sulfonate (-S()3 Na+) with NaOH. This is called the neutral form of Nafion, and it is converted to the acid for and cast into a thin film by heating in alcohol at 250°C. At around 650/m2, the Nafion membranes are rather expensive when compared to hydrocarbon membranes, which are also used. [Pg.77]

Preparation.—From Amines or Alcohols. Katritzky has reviewed mechanistic and preparative aspects of the conversion of primary amino to other functional groups mediated by pyrilium cations according to the general Scheme 34, where nucleophiles include the halide anions (cf. 4,157) and carboxylates (c/. 4,138), Other recent publications in this area have included full details of the preparation of primary alkyl and benzyl fluorides by this route using 2,4,6-triphenylpyrilium salts (4,157). The conversion of primary amines to the corresponding bromides has now been improved, either by a modified pyrolysis procedure but still... [Pg.170]
