Aging factor

Age Factor. A final question is the issue of age, which may also play a significant role. In addressing this factor, Stanley et al. ( 16) compared elderly (mean age = 69.2 5.3) with younger (mean age = 33.7 6.6) medical patients for capacity to consent. Although both groups tended to make reasonable decisions, the elderly patients demonstrated poorer comprehension for various elements of the informed consent process. Thus, special care must be taken to ensure that older patients comprehend sufficiently to give a valid consent.

In essence, the Arp model argues that observed redshift is a measure, not so much of the distance to the source, but the age of the matter it contains. It is noted in passing that the Arp age factor is directly related to the relative mass of a source (e.g. the young supergiants in the Magellanic clouds), such that chemical redshifts would define the same desired trend. 

The pressure is determined at two extrusion speeds, using a capillary rheometer fitted with an extrusion die and a pipe with fixed dimensions. The determinations are carried out one hour after the ceramic mass has been prepared, and again 24 hours later. The figures obtained, and the factors Ha (ageing factor) and Ks (increase factor), provide useful information on the characteristics of the ceramic compounds. The principle of the method is illustrated in Fig. 4.
