Acrylamide agricultural applications

Other derivatives of acrylic acid, such as acrylamide, and some substituted acrylamides also are utilized to make polymers with practical applications. For example, polyacrylamide that is water soluble is used in medicine, in paints and coatings industry, and in adhesives industry. The polymer with some crosslinking forms hydrogels, with applications in agriculture (soil improvement, hydroponics) and in laboratories as stationary phase for electrophoresis. [Pg.363]

There are lots of research applications published regarding PLE and analysis of various compoimds in food and agricultural materials, for example pesticides in rapeseed (38), babyfood (39) and strawberries (40), lipids in com and oats (41) and in egg-containing foods (42), acrylamide in food samples (43), carotenoids in processed food (44), xanthones and flavanones in root bark (45), tocopherols in seeds and nuts (46), antioxidants in microalgae (47) and anthocyanins and total phenolics in dried red grape skin (48). With analytical methods based on GC/MS or LC/MS, it has been possible to discover how acrylamide originates in foods and the environment. In the environment, acrylamide arises from agricultural, water-treatment, and industrial sources. Among its many applications, polyacrylamide is used in water purification to aggregate suspended organic compounds, in irrigation water to improve soil texture, in... [Pg.981]
