Free AChE Inhibited AChE Aged AChE... [Pg.795]

The literature contains data about certain species susceptibility to ChR. Thus, H-oximes are more efficacious in poisoning of rodents, than primates and the human being (rodents AChE aging rate is 10 to 20 times lower). [Pg.167]

Worek et al., 2005). V agent-inhibited RBC-AChE ages very slowly in humans, allowing therapeutic intervention with oximes for a longer period lasting several days (Sidell and Groff, 1974 Thiermann et al., 2007). [Pg.834]

Traumatic brain injury is the most common cause of death in subjects under the age of 40, and an important risk factor for AD. Loss of hippocampal cells and depletion of ACh and of muscarinic receptors can be attenuated in injured experimental animals, improve blood perfusion in ischemic areas and increase cholinergic transmission in cortex and hippocampus the same mechanism invoked for treatment of VD. [Pg.360]

CBs, like OPs, act as inhibitors of ChE. They are treated as substrates by the enzyme and carbamylate the serine of the active site (Figure 10.8). Speaking generally, car-bamylated AChE reactivates more rapidly than phosphorylated AChE. After aging has occurred, phosphorylation of the enzyme is effectively irreversible (see Section 10.2.4). Carbamylated AChE reactivates when preparations are diluted with water, a process that is accelerated in the presence of acetylcholine, which competes as a substrate. Thus, the measurement of AChE inhibition is complicated by the fact that reactivation occurs during the course of the assay. Carbamylated AChE is not reactivated by PAM and related compounds that are used as antidotes to OP poisoning (see Box 10.1). [Pg.215]

A positive property of the most active reactivators of the second generation lies in their ability to reduce 2 to 2.5 times aging rate of AChE inhibited with soman. [Pg.105]

Most other alkaloids shown to have AChE inhibitory activity have been isolated from plants used in traditional medicine. Coptis chinensis Franch has been used in TCM for several conditions including age-related cognitive and memory decHne. Some alkaloids found in this species e.g. berberine (43), coptisine (44) and palmatine (45) are reported to also be antiChE. Coptis chinensis extract improved a scopolamine-induced learning and memory deficit in rats and this is likely to be due to the alkaloids present thus raising ACh levels. Berberine (43) has been shown to selectively inhibit AChE compared with Bu ChE and it has been shown to improve scopolamine-induced amnesia in rats. ... [Pg.400]

Children - Clinical adverse experiences observed in 10% or more of pediatric patients 3 to 16 years of age who received efavirenz capsules were the following Rash, diarrhea/loose stools, fever, cough, dizziness/lightheadedness/fainting ache/pain/discomfort, nausea/vomiting, headache. [Pg.1897]

One of the most worrisome aspects of aging is memory loss. We can put up with wrinkles, sagging skin, aches and pains, but the first time we forget a name it conjures up horrific visions of Alzheimer s disease. Most people, of course, do not go on to develop this dreaded disease, but they may very well have to put up with some memory loss as a consequence of senior citizenship. Can we do anything about it Is there some pill we can pop to improve memory ... [Pg.124]
