There is a remarkable difference in the ab4 systems of SF5-acetylenes as compared to the respective SF5-alkenes or SF5-alkanes. Most noticeably, the order of appearance of the ab4 signals switches for SF5-acety-lenes, with the four fluorine signals due to the equatorial fluorines appearing downfield of the one fluorine signal due to the axial fluorine (Scheme 7.31). Relative to SF5-ethane, the SF5-acetylene equatorial fluorines have shifted 20ppm downfield, whereas its axial fluorine is shifted 10ppm upfield compared to those of SF5-ethane. [Pg.238]

Violent explosions occur when fluorine directly contacts liquid hydrocarbons, even at —210 with anthracene or turpentine, or solid methane at — 190°C with liquid fluorine. Many lubricants ignite in fluorine [1,2]. Contact and reaction under carefully controlled conditions with catalysis can now be effected smoothly [3], Gaseous hydrocarbons (town gas, methane) ignite in contact with fluorine, and mixtures with unsaturated hydrocarbons (ethylene, acetylene) may explode on exposure to sunlight. Each bubble of fluorine passed through benzene causes ignition, but a rapid stream may lead to explosion [4],... [Pg.1514]

The usual oxidizer in the fire triangle is oxygen in the air. However, gases such as fluorine and chlorine liquids such as peroxides and chlorates and solids such as ammonium nitrate and some metals can serve the role of an oxidizer. Exothermic decomposition, without oxygen, is also possible, e.g., with ethylene oxide or acetylene. [Pg.7]

In another study the kinetics and mechanism of an unprecedented T/2-vinyl isomerization of a highly fluorinated tungsten(II) metalla-cyclopropene complex was studied (92). Photolysis of a tungsten(II) tetrafluoroaryl metallacycle 1 and perfluoro-2-butyne results in the formation of the kinetic rf -vinyl complex 2 in which the fluoride is trans to the inserted acetylene and cis to both carbonyl ligands. Upon heating 2 is converted to the thermodynamic rf -vinyl complex 3 in which the fluoride ligand is now cis to the inserted alkyne and trans to one CO and cis to the second CO ligand as shown in Scheme 1. [Pg.20]

In the previous papers, we reported that the radiation-induced cross-linking of polyethylene was accelerated by acetylene (4) and by the mixtures of acetylene and some fluorine-containing monomers (5). [Pg.307]

The first anti-Markovnikov hydration of terminal acetylenes, catalyzed by mthenium(ll)-phosphine complexes, has been described in 1998 [27]. As shown on Scheme 9.8, the major products were aldehydes, accompanied by some ketone and alcohol. In addition to TPPTS, the fluorinated phosphine, PPh2(C6Fs) also formed catalytically active Ru-complexes in reaction with [ RUC12(C6H6) 2]. [Pg.224]

Chlorine-hydrogen mixture can explode in the presence of sunlight, heat or a spark. Also, it can explode when mixed with acetylene or diborane at ordinary temperatures, and with ethylene, fluorine, and many hydrocarbons in the presence of heat, spark or catalysts. [Pg.213]
