A calibration was established for a quantile-BEAST determination of capsule KCN content. A LOD of 2.6 mg of KCN was established in acetaminophen capsules with an average mass of 670 mg (<0.4% of the capsule weight). 

The patient revealed on questioning that six to eight weeks prior to admission she had taken one 500 mg paracetamol (acetaminophen) capsule every three to four hours per day and Lortab 10 [an analgesic containing 500 mg paracetamol (acetaminophen)] four to five times a day. Spectra of 10 to 13 unadulterated capsules were collected at 18 wavelengths with an InfraAlyzer 400 and used as a training set. The model was tested with an equal number of unadulterated capsules. Potassium and sodium cyanide, aluminum shavings, arsenic trioxide, and other contaminants were incorporated into acetaminophen capsules and used to test the model. All the adulterated capsules were easily differentiated from unadulterated capsules, even with as few as two wavelengths.

Column chromatography has been applied to separate and analyse a mixture of salicylamide and acet-minophen in tablets and capsules (1+9)- Strongly acidic and basic celite columns are used to separate acetaminophen and salicylamide respectively. Quantitation is performed using ultraviolet spectrophotometry.

Standard adult dosage of acetaminophen is identified as 325 mg. Children s standard dosage is 80 mg or 160 mg. Standard dosage means the amount of acetaminophen in a tablet or other solid dosage form. The amount of the drug can be increased to 500 mg per tablet or capsule if it is stated on the label that it is not the standard adult dosage form. Liquid forms of acetaminophen intended for adult use shall contain one adult standard dosage form per teaspoon.
