To illustrate this procedure, consider a situation that might arise in the pharmaceutical industry. Assume that the specification for a commercial 500-mg acetaminophen (the active painkiller in Tylenol) tablet is that each batch of tablets must contain 450—550 mg of acetaminophen per tablet. Suppose that chemical analysis gave the following results for a batch of acetaminophen tablets 428, 479, 442, and 435 mg. How can these results be used to decide whether the batch of tablets meets the specification Although the details of how to draw such conclusions from measured data are beyond the scope of this discussion, we will consider some aspects of this process. We will focus here on the types of experimental uncertainty, the expression of experimental results, and a simplified method for estimating experimental uncertainty when several types of measurements contribute to the final result. 

With reference to the structures of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin, Chapter 2 opening molecule) and acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol), explain each statement (a) Acetaminophen tablets can be stored in the medicine cabinet for years, but aspirin slowly decomposes over time (b) Children s Tylenol can be sold as a liquid (acetaminophen dissolved in water), but aspirin cannot. 

More studies are necessary to elucidate the effect of other factors, such as the type of binder, the type of filler, and the solubility of the matrix, which may significantly affect the effectiveness of disintegrants in different modes of incorporation. In Norway, Wieders Farmasoytiske A/S received approval for the use of NIR as an alternative method for identification, assay, and determination of moisture content of paracetamol (acetaminophen) tablets. The Norwegian Medicines Control Authority approved the method in December 1996. 

Case Conclusion In the ED, the patient was given IV morphine with adequate pain control. After an overnight hospital stay for observation and easting of the left leg, LG was discharged to home with a prescription for hydrocodone/ acetaminophen tablets, to be taken as needed for pain. 

Isomalt has very good thermal and chemical stability. When it is melted, no changes in the molecular structure are observed. It exhibits considerable resistance to acids and microbial influences. Isomalt is non-hygroscopic, and at 25°C does not significantly absorb additional water up to a relative humidity (RH) of 85 paracetamol (acetaminophen) tablets based on isomalt were stored for 6 months at 85% RH at 20°C and retained their physical aspect. ...
