Accidental humidity

Both art and nature use molds, then, although the formation of stones within the earth does not rely on the fusion of a material by heat. To the contrary, materials within the earth are solidified in their natural molds by the gradual escape of exhalative water, which is a process of evaporation rather than fusion. But as we saw above, it is an identical process that occurs in a potter s kiln. The evaporation of accidental humidity from clay is what allows it to harden, just as in the case of naturally forming minerals. [Pg.158]

A.m blent Environment. The environment around the flow conduit must be considered in meter selection. Such factors as the ambient temperature and humidity, the pipe shock and vibration levels, the avadabiHty of electric power, and the corrosive and explosive characteristics of the environment may all influence flow meter selection. Special factors such as possible accidental flooding, the need for hosedown or steam cleaning, and the possibiHty of lightning or power transients may also need to be evaluated. [Pg.55]

Although most of the water in the meniscus evaporates once the tip has been retracted, residual structures can be observed in a radius of several tens of micrometers (depending on humidity and contact time) around the original contact point. Water-sensitive papers are readily available in most countries and provide a convenient system for visually assessing spray drift performance. These papers are coated with bromoethyl blue, which turns from yellow to blue when contacted with water. " However, since any water can cause this change in color, care needs to be taken to prevent accidental exposure to sources of water other than the pesticide. Such cards do not work well under humid conditions, and are not appropriate for sampling droplets with diameter below 15 qm. Quantitative estimates of droplet size distributions must take account of the exponential increase in droplet volume as the droplet diameter increases. Being thermodynamically unstable and highly reactive, the high-surface Li deposits over the SEI surface continuously consume lithium ions available for intercalation and drastically decrease cell capacity and hence life time [25]. In addition, the reactions associated with high-surface lithium are highly exothermic, may create potentially imsafe situations, especially under internal short conditions, accidental exposure to humid air and thermal or mechanical shock conditions that could lead to thermal runaway. Consider the case of a moisture-sensitive item that must be kept in an atmosphere of less than 10% relative humidity. This means that the partial pressure of moisture in the air cannot exceed 10% of the saturation vapor pressure. The type of adhesive to be used, i.e. it must be compatible with the substrates to produce bond strengths reasonable for the particular job. It must also be capable of withstanding the conditions of temperature, humidity, oil or other chemicals likely to be met in service. It must be in a form suitable for application to the surfaces, to fill the joint and remain in place until set. Sufficient joint area must be provided to accommodate anticipated stresses, including minor accidental and shock loadings.
