Oil absorbent

Higher-boiling fractions supply the creosotes, absorbing oils, anthracene, coal tar fuels, road tar, etc. [Pg.103]

Natural gas Hquids are recovered from natural gas using condensation processes, absorption (qv) processes employing hydrocarbon Hquids similar to gasoline or kerosene as the absorber oil, or soHd-bed adsorption (qv) processes using adsorbants such as siHca, molecular sieves, or activated charcoal. Eor condensation processes, cooling can be provided by refrigeration units which frequently use vapor-compression cycles with propane as the refrigerant or by... [Pg.171]

Absorber oil units offer the advantage that Hquids can be removed at the expense of only a small (34—69 kPa (4.9—10.0 psi)) pressure loss in the absorption column. If the feed gas is available at pipeline pressure, then Httle if any recompression is required to introduce the processed natural gas into the transmission system. However, the absorption and subsequent absorber-oil regeneration process tends to be complex, favoring the simpler, more efficient expander plants. Separations using soHd desiccants are energy-intensive because of the bed regeneration requirements. This process option is generally considered only in special situations such as hydrocarbon dew point control in remote locations. [Pg.172]

Poor resistance to oils and organic solvents. SBR swells in organic solvents and absorbs oils. Vulcanization is necessary to increase oil and organic solvent resistance. [Pg.654]

Absorber oil then flows to a still where it is heated to a high enough temperature to drive the propanes, butanes, pentanes and other natural gas liquid components to the overhead. The still is similar to a crude oil stabilizer with reflux. The closer the bottom temperature approaches the boiling temperature of the lean oil the purer the lean oil which will be recirculated to the absorber. Temperature control on the condenser keeps lean oil from being lost with the overhead. [Pg.245]

A gas processing plant selectively extracts ethylene and ethane from an incoming natural gas mixture stream. These two light hydrocarbons are absorbed in a heavy gasoline type absorber oil, and then stripped with open steam in an open tower. The system data are (see Figure 8-41) ... [Pg.62]

Decontamination since concrete is a porous material it can absorb oil, rusty water, etc. and coatings can reduce the absorption. [Pg.132]

The products of oil oxidation will attack metals, and this can be prevented by keeping the system free from pro-oxidative impurities and by the use of anti-oxidants. These additives will not, however, prevent rusting of ferrous surfaces when air and water are present in the mineral oil. The presence of absorbed air and moisture is inevitable in lubricating systems and therefore the oil must be inhibited against rusting. These additives, which are homogeneously mixed with the oil, have an affinity for metal, and a strongly absorbed oil film is formed on the metal surface, which prevents the access of air and moisture. [Pg.847]

Rubber powder from scrap tires readily absorbs oil floating on water and forms a cohesive mass, which can be easily removed. The amount of oil take up and weight of oil absorbed depends on the particle size of waste tire powder, temperature, and type of oil the weight of oil absorbed is directly proportional to the amount of rubber powder [65]. The oil uptake time decreases as the particle size decreases. [Pg.1049]

Disadvantages stiff fibers (aromatic rings), poor drape except with cotton blends, hydrophobic, pilling, static charge buildup, absorbs oils and greases easily (stains)... [Pg.326]

Vapor Phase Absorption. Absorption is closely related to extractive distillation, in that a solvent is used for the separation of one or more constituents from a gaseous mixture. In absorption, however, the mixture to be treated is comprised of compounds having relatively large differences in volatility and condensation cannot be conveniently used. The various absorption processes differ primarily in the means used to separate product and absorber oil. A typical example of the application of vapor phase absorption in the petroleum industry is the recovery of gasoline from natural gas. [Pg.208]

Given that most of us are not equipped with such sophisticated weaponry and that chemical drain cleaners are not ideal, what do we do First and foremost, practice preventive maintenance. Make sure that fat does not go down the drain. Wipe greasy plates with soiled napkins newspaper is great for absorbing oil. If you have a garbarator, then use plenty of cold water to flush away the remains carrot peelings and corn husks, particularly, can cause obstructions. To keep drains flowing... [Pg.190]

The skin should be clean and grease-free, and warmer skin will absorb oils more quickly owing to increased capillary circulation. [Pg.262]

Example 5 Absorber Compute stage temperatures and interstage vapor and liquid flow rates and compositions for the absorber specifications shown in Fig. 13-46. Note that a second absorber oil feed is used in addition to the main absorber oil and that heat is withdrawn from the seventh theoretical stage. The oil may be taken to be n-dodecane. [Pg.38]
