Patients experiencing steatohepatitis may present with abdominal fullness or pain as their only complaint. Patients with more severe steatonecrosis will present with all the symptoms characteristic of alcoholic hepatitis such as nausea, vomiting, steatorrhea, abdominal pain, pruritus, and fatigue. 

For severe abdominal fullness, add Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis Hou Po) and Radix Saussureae Seu Vladimiriae Mu Xiang). 

A systematic review of clinical trials of Indian frankincense products indicated that adverse effects related to Indian frankincense were minor and not significantly different from those observed in control treatment or placebo groups. Diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea were reported in several of the seven studies reviewed (Frank and Unger 2006). In a study not included in the review, epigastric pain, abdominal fullness, gastroesophageal reflux, diarrhea, and nausea were reported in 18% of patients with ulcerative colitis receiving 1.5 g of Indian frankincense daily for 6 weeks (Gupta et al. 1997). 

Blowfly maggots that infest or blow the wool of sheep are especially common in warm humid areas, but occur wherever sheep are raised. Several species are involved, but the most troublesome species in Africa is Lucilia cuprina. The flies are attracted either to open wounds or to fermenting wool, the latter a condition that arises when sheep in full fleece are subjected to frequent rains during warm weather. While Lucilia cuprina apparently confines its attack mostly to the wool and the serous fluid that exudes from the skin of infested sheep, some of the associated species may attack the skin and flesh with serious or fatal result. Lucilia sericata has been observed to penetrate the abdominal wall and enter the peritoneal cavity.

Toxicity other than gastrointestinal effects is most common following acute ingestion nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, bloating, and diarrhea. Fullness and tenderness of the breast and edema were also observed. Severe migraine was reported in some. Endometriosis and its attendant pain were also seen. 

For severe abdominal distention, fullness, and pain, add Semen Raphani Sativi (Lai Fu Zi), Semen Pruni Persicae ( Lao Ren), and Radix Rubrus Paeoniae Lactiflorae (Chi Shao). 

For severe epigastric and abdominal distention and fullness, add Radix Saussureae Seu Vladimiriae (Mu Xiang) and Fructus Amomi (ShaRen).
