ABC-plastic

A specific case of branched radical polymerization is the graft polymerization of styrene on rubber. This reaction is the basis for the manufacture of some industrially important composite plastics, such as shock-proof polystyrene, ABC plastic, and similar materials. [Pg.127]

Lawrence and Ducharme [489] have described a fast, simplified method for the detection of fluorescent whiteners in polymers, in which the polymer dissolution was applied directly to the thin layer. Also the separation of optical brighteners (Leucopur EGM, Azur 4, Azur 5, Hostalux ABC, Uvitex OB, Eastobrite OB) from plastics and migration into water and olive oil was studied by HPTLC on RP-18 silica using various mobile phase mixtures and UV detection [490]. [Pg.229]

Recycled resins (all commodity and some engineering ones) are commercially available. A comparative list of prices of the virgin and recycled resins is shown in Table 16.5. The prices of recycled plastics are quite competitive. Evidently, while the quoted prices of commodity resins are reasonably close to these of virgin materials, the situation vis-a-vis condensation polymer is atrocious. The only way to make profit on the latter materials is to upgrade them by the recyclers ABC and supply compounds with well-defined and reproducible set of properties to a specific market niche. As it will be discussed later, the addition-type polymers can be reused after restabilization and compounding, whereas the condensation-type ones may require molecular repair to bring up... [Pg.1123]

Finally, one company received and stored plastic compounds at a site location a mile from the manufacturing facility and incurred close to 150,000 annually in excess material handling costs. This added 0.03 to the cost of every pound of plastic used, which was a material addition that had been invisible without ABC. [Pg.413]

Company ABC approached Polymer Solutions Incorporated for us to determine if any differences existed between two different polyacetal samples, labeled as Sample A and Sample B. Sample A was a product from a major supplier of polyacetal. Sample B was purported to be an innovative, direct replacement for the Sample A plastic product. The supplier of Sample B claimed to have developed a novel synthesis process and, as a result, was attracting substantial capital from investors. [Pg.385]

The gr areas indicate the coexistence regiois between the various phases, whidi are isotropic (I), nematic (N), anectic A (SmA), solid (ABC and AAA stacking) and plastic solid (PCr). The solid points indicate the simulation results. Note that the aspect ratio is on a logarithmic scale. [Pg.399]
