A Gift

Near miss incident reports are a gift. They allow an organization to analyze potential accidents, such as fatal accidents, collisions, fires, and explosions, enabling them to take corrective action to improve and rectify processes and procedures before loss-producing accidents happen. 

Safety is traditionally taken seriously, but only for a short period of time after an accident. Proactive safety is when serious attempts are made to predict when the next accident may happen by identifying and reducing risks and fixing things before the event may occur. Near miss incidents offer such an opportunity and will involve a change in safety culture.

Can you believe that A chemist just recreated a wondrously complex substance that, before now, was only a gift from God to man via plants. Man took this gift away from her fellow man but now, through the unbelievable power of chemistry, man can reclaim her right to self determination. Albeit illegally of course. 

In this stage of the investigation, poly(methyl methacrylates) (PMMAs) were selected as the polymeric probes of intermediate polarity. Polymers of medium broad molar mass distribution and of low tacticity (14) were a gift of Dr. W. Wunderlich of Rohm Co., Darmstadt, Germany. Their molar masses ranged from 1.6 X 10" to 6.13 X 10 g-mol. For some comparative tests, narrow polystyrene standards from Pressure Co. (Pittsburgh, PA) were used.

In 1902 the couple had a daughter out of wedlock, Lieserl, whose fate remains unknown, and after marriage they had two sons, Hans Albert (1904), who became a distinguished professor of hydraulic engineering in Berkeley, California, and Eduard (1910), a gifted child who became a student of medicine in Zurich but who then turned severely schizophrenic and died in a psychiatric hospital.

Sometimes you want to go out for a drink, not to meet friends, as this gentleman had, but to have a quiet moment to yourself and to observe this great city. A cocktail can be an occasion to dip into other people s lives, and to reflect upon your own, in the gentlest possible manner. It can be a four-ounce education, a gifted entertainment or the cheapest kind of date.

Legacy. A gift that will outlive the person who gave it and that will help others. Mentoring. Tutoring another person in something with the idea of helping the person succeed in that area. 

I m extremely sensitive to stress and other people s emotional energy. It s like I have radar. I think that s part of my problem. I was always sensitive as a child, but I didn t realize how sensitive. Right now it s a detriment because I turn it inward and can t turn it off. But it s a gift that I m trying to develop in a positive direction.
