Catalysts. Some commercial PtRe catalysts listed in Table I were used in this study as well as some PtSn catalysts on which were reported elsewhere (7). The fresh catalysts B-6, B-7 and B-8 made in China are white because they are unreduced. Catalyst 803 made by Engelhard Corp. was grey because it had been reduced by the manufacturer. [Pg.201]

Materials. The noble metals were in all cases fine powders. The ruthenium, osmium, and iridium were heated ( 700 °C) under hydrogen, to minimize oxide coating, the metals being cooled in hydrogen and otherwise exposed only to dry nitrogen. Otherwise, the metal powders were used as supplied Pd, Pi, Ir from Engelhard Corp. East Newark, N.J. 07029, Qs from Strem Chemicals, Newburyport, MA 01950, Au from Orion Chem. [Pg.426]

Materials. Anhydrous HF and fluorine were supplied by Matheson Gas Products (East Rutherford, NJ), AgzO by Lancaster Synthesis Inc. (99+% Windham, NH) and Au by ROC/RIC (99.99% Sun Valley, CA). Pd, Pt and Ir were supplied by Engelhard Corp. (East Newark, NJ), Os by Streni Chemicals (Newburypoit, MA) and Ru from Johnson MaUhey Co. (London, UK). The alkali fluorides (Allied Chemical, B A quality, Morristown, NJ) were dried at 150 C under dynamic vacuum (< Torr). [Pg.457]
