In addition, the oral design presentation is discussed and suggestions are made for the organization of the presentation, the media used, methods for rehearsing, and written handouts. Also discussed, are typical criteria for evaluation and the usage of videotapes.

In some situations, design teams find it easier to make their points through the preparation of a small written handout. Often, this includes the detailed process flow diagram, similar to that shown in Figme 3.19, or a design sketch of a product. 

A description of the material covered in the lecture component of the course and sample laboratory exercises will be discussed for each of the topical areas that the course covers. Before laboratory each week, the students are given a 20-30 min introduction to the software and how to use it. They are also given a handout that has two sections. The first section has the student work through a problem using the software. This is done by providing the input the student should use, followed by a brief discussion of the result of their action. The second contains a problem that the student must solve using the software. The results of the second section are then written in report form and turned in at the beginning of the next laboratory.

Since the laboratoiy course is independent of the lecture course and since the course does not include a laboratory lecture or case study session, written material in the form of a pre-laboratory handout is used to introduce nanotechnology and highlight. Students were reminded of the related ideas about the properties of light that they had already covered in the lectnre portion of the course. 

In the simplest case, the instructor uses a dedicated slide to soMcit a submission from students, and the written artifacts on the slide are expected to be submitted. In such a case, students can submit their writing by simply ticking (i.e., drawing a check mark as illustrated in Fig. 4) the printed button labeled submit on the handouts. All digital notes captured from the slide are immediately sent to the instructor s computer. Our experiments show that such button clicking is very robust and easy to use.
