Workspace design specifications include a minimum of 20 inches in width, 26 inches in depth to allow for adequate leg clearance, a minimum of 4-inch clearance from the edge of the workstation, and an approximate ideal work area of 10 by 10 inches where activities are performed. Design seated only work surface height shall be 28-30" (28" is preferred) when sit/stand workstation is not feasible. 

The issues governing the workplace environment are ventilation, heating and temperature, lighting, workstations and seating. 

Workstations should be arranged so that work may be done safely and comfortably. The worker should be at a suitable height relative to the work surface and there should be no need for undue bending and stretching. Workers must not be expected to stand for long periods of time particularly on solid floors. A suitable seat should be provided when a substantial part of the task can or must be done sitting. The letdown flow outside containment isolation valve is a normally closed, fail closed, air-operated globe valve that isolates letdown to the liquid radwaste system. This valve automatically opens and closes on a plant control system signal from the pressuriser level control system or a containment isolation signal from the protection and safety monitoring system. Ibis valve operates in the same fashion as the letdown flow inside containment isolation valve. The letdown flow outside containment isolation valve eloses more quickly than inside containment letdown flow isolation valve to limit seat wear of inside containment isolation valve. This valve operator has a flow restricting orifice in the air line, so it opens more slowly than inside containment letdown flow isolation valve. In addition, during brief periods of shutdown, when the reactor coolant system is water solid, this valve throttles to maintain the reactor coolant system pressure. Manual control is also provided in the main control room and at the remote shutdown workstation. 

Design so machines and equipment are adjustable. One size does not fit all. Today, one can often find adjustable features for controls, seating, furniture, fixtures, and other equipment, particularly in consumer products, vehicles, and manufacturing equipment. Similar features maybe needed for workstations and equipment in various mining settings.
