CLSM) has been used to generate three-dimensional information on particle size, shape and porosity [141]. The CLSM has been used to measure particle size distribution in situ and ex situ using computer based image analysis system [142]. A model was developed to assess processing conditions to produce a floe with desirable characteristics in an enhanced actinide removal. Ferreira et.al. [143] present some additional methods of measuring wood pulp fibers and compares these with data from CLSM... [Pg.184]

Cellulose nanofibers from different sources have showed remarkable characteristics as reinforcement material for optically transparent composites [160, 161], Iwamoto et al. [160] prepared optically transparent composites of transparent acrylic resin reinforced with cellulose nanofibers extracted from wood pulp fibers by fibrillation process. They showed that cellulose nanofiber-reinforced composites are able to retain the transparency of the matrix resin even at high fiber content (up to70 % wt). The aggregation of cellulose nanofibers also contributes to a significant improvement in the thermal expansion properties of plastics. [Pg.43]

The discovery of turbulent drag reduction due to particle suspensions goes back to the 1930s. Forest and Grierson (3) reported the turbulent drag reduction in pipe flow of wood-pulp fiber suspensions of water. Vanoni (4) observed that water with suspended sand flowed more rapidly in an open channel. Toms (5) and Mysels (6) independently observed the striking reduction in turbulent drag in pipe flows... [Pg.2240]
