Women s hair

One interesting thermoplastic material where swirls are often desirable is cellulose acetate. This is an interesting polymer that is made from cellulose— plant fiber. While it is used for photographic film, a more interesting use as it relates to feel is in eyeglass frames and women s hair care products—combs, brushes, barrettes, etc. Cellulose acetate has a slight amount of transparency, as well as a certain amount of iridescence. In the hands of a skilled craftsman, parts made from cellulose acetate can mimic the look of tortoiseshell and ivory and even sea shells such as abalone (Figure 7.12). [Pg.271]

Another noted and prolific Japanese author in the field of functional dyes, Masaru Matsuoka of the Laboratory of Materials Science, Kyoto Women s University, has written the second chapter, dealing with leuco-quinone dyes. These are the traditional redox leuco systems employed for so many years in the vat dyeing industry, and this chapter is an invaluable review of the chemistry of these systems, drawing on recent mechanistic and structural investigations. Applications considered include not only textile dyeing, but also other more specialized areas, such as hair dyeing, color formers, and photoimaging materials. [Pg.309]

The first commercial use of nylon was in bristles for toothbrushes and hair brushes. Two years later, in 1940, nylon made its nationwide debut in women s hosiery. Its use in parachutes followed soon after. [Pg.13]

Sex hormones control the development of the sex organs in both men and women. In men, male sex hormones control the production of sperm as well as mens deeper voices, facial hair, and muscle development. In women, female sex hormones control the production of ova as well as women s higher voices, lack of facial hair, and breast development. [Pg.342]

The intention at Wolf s is to make it an upscale deli, as Mr. Scotto put it, an idea that might strike Wolf s regulars as making as much sense as a downscale Hotel Plaza. You still get a bowl of pickles and a bowl of coleslaw on the table with every meal. You still get tiny red-haired women, folded over like wallets, eating dinner at four in the afternoon. This is a cosmopolitan crowd, as in emigre, not as in Sarah Jessica Parker. [Pg.112]

Tachycardia, palpitations, angina, and edema are observed when doses of 3 blockers and diuretics are inadequate. Headache, sweating, and hypertrichosis, which is particularly bothersome in women, are relatively common. Minoxidil illustrates how one person s toxicity may become another person s therapy. Topical minoxidil (as Rogaine) is used as a stimulant to hair growth for correction of baldness. [Pg.236]
