Names of compounds m small capital Utters indicate substances for which directions are given the numbers m bold face type refer to volumes of Organic Syntheses, numbers in italics refer to pages in those volumes on which preparative directions are given and num bers in Arabic refer to pages on which the compounds or subjects are mentioned in connection with other preparations For example Acetoacetic Ester 4 45 6, 36 indicates... [Pg.129]

M/AI2O3 (M = Cr, Mo, W) catalysts were ultra-active for the hydrogenation of ethylene when compared with others prepared by traditional methods from appropriate salts-a low oxidation state of M is of crucial importance for these catalysts to be active in the hydrogenation of olefins. [Pg.318]

Names in small capital letters refer to the titles of individual preparations. A number in ordinary bold-face type denotes the volume. A number in bold-face italics refers to a page which gives preparative directions for substances formed either as principal products or as by-products numbers in ordinary type indicate pages on which a compound or a subject is mentioned in connection with other preparations. For example. Acetone cyanohydrin, SO, 42, 43, indicates that acetone cyanohydrin is mentioned on page 42, and that directions for its preparation are given in detail on page 43, of Volume 20. [Pg.99]

Measurement of total protein is useful, as it indicates the degree of purification at each step. However, unless the next step critically depends on how much protein is present, total protein measurement is not extremely important a small sample can be put aside and measured later, when the purification is complete. It is, however, very important to know how much protein is present in the final, presumed pure sample, as this will indicate the specific activity (if the protein has an activity), which can be compared with other preparations. The general object is to obtain as high a specific activity as possible (taking into account recovery considerations), which means retaining as much of the desired protein as possible while ending up with as little total protein as possible. [Pg.271]

The use of the preparation in treating old wounds with an abundant suppurative discharge was less effective. Local application of the 5% l-(chloromethyl)silatrane ointment did not cause any side effects. It is concluded that the l-(chloromethyl)-silatrane ointment may be applied along with other preparations in local treatment of fresh suppurative burns. [Pg.104]

A magnesium slurry in ether can be used to prepare benzol-cyclobutenylmethylmagnesiumbromide at — 50° without the rcarrangcmcnttoo-vinyl-phenylmethylmagnesium bromide, usually encountered with other preparations of the metal.7... [Pg.159]

One advantage of preparing supported samples by the sol-gel method is that the supported phase, be it a metal or an oxide, can be introduced during instead of after the formation of the support. Other than the convenience of saving a step, this feature may introduce unique metal-oxide or oxide-oxide interactions that are inaccessible with other preparation methods. The tradeoff is the activation of the supported phase is likely to be more difficult if it is incorporated within the support structure. [Pg.54]
