Polycrystalline yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ-8) disks were prepared using 8 mol % Y203-doped zirconia powder (TOSOH zirconia, TZ-8Y, TOSOH Corp.). The powder was pressed uniaxially into disks which were cold isostatically pressed at 40,000 psi and then sintered at 1450°C for 4 h. Pt paste (Engelhard 6926) was painted on both faces of the YSZ-8 disks. Pt wires (0.0025 cm diam) were connected to the YSZ by using Pt meshes (150 X 150 mesh, 0.005 cm wire diam, Unique Wire Weaving Co., Inc.). [Pg.1]

Impingement demister systems are designed to intercept liquid particles before the gas outlet. They are usually constructed from wire mesh or metal plates and liquid droplets impinge on the internal surfaces of the mist mats or plate labyrinth as the gas weaves through the system. The intercepted droplets coalesce and move downward under gravity into the liquid phase. Combination metallic and nonmetallic cloths consist of metallic wires and weak cloth or asbestos threads. There are some difficulties in weaving when attempting to maintain uniformity between wires and the cloth, and considerable dissatisfaction has been experienced with such construction. While cotton weaves well with the asbestos, the cotton fibers destroy the fabric s resistance to heat and corrosion. Sieve cloth is woven from wire and the cloth is soldered and clamped to the bottom of cylindrical containers [10,13]. Although the apertures are described as square, they deviate from this shape due to the three-dimensional structure of the weave. In the weaving process, the weft wires are crimped on to the warp wires for added strength vigorous cleaning, for example with a wire brush, can separate the wires leading to oversize apertures. Fine sieves are usually woven with phosphor bronze wire, medium with brass, and coarse with mild steel. [Pg.213]
