Wire rope equipment used

The proper design of sheaves, drums, and other equipment on which wire rope is used is very important to the service life of wire rope. It is strongly urged that the purchaser specify on his order that such material shall conform with recommendations set forth in this section. 

Wire ropes are used extensively in the mining industry to help hoist equipment. Mine workers also depend on this rope for their safety. Wire rope undergoes both corrosion and abrasion, which will degrade the mechanical properties of the wire and thus reduce its load-bearing capability and cause it to fail. 

At least every 12 months, wire ropes in use on equipment must be inspected by a qualified person in accordance with paragraph (a) of this section (shift inspection). 

Centering equipment is used to ensure that the impressed current anode is centrally situated in the borehole. The anode with the centering device can be inserted in the borehole by use of, for example, plastic-insulated wire ropes (see Fig. 9-11). Condition C—Some equipment is used under operating conditions which do not reflect the advantage of the selection of sheaves by factors under conditions A or B. In such cases, sheave-diameter factors may be selected from Figure 4-76 and Table 4-34, As smaller factors are selected, the bending life of the wire rope is reduced and it becomes an increasingly important condition of rope service. Some conception of relative rope service with different rope constructions and/or different sheave sizes may be obtained by multiplying the ordinate found in Figure 4-76 by the proper construction factor indicated in Table 4-34. 

Nylon can be sterilised with steam so it is sued in hypodermic syringes and surgical accessories. Curtain runners, sinks, zips, combs and switches are manufactured from nylon. Extruded nylon is used in covering wire ropes, in packaging film for pharmaceuticals, bottles, tubing, etc. Nylon laminates are used for heavy duty driving belts. Monofilaments are used in brushes, sports equipment, surgical sutures, etc. Monofilaments are prepared from nylon 6, 10 or nylon 11. 

Rigging equipment, used for moving materials, is another factor associated with material handling. Every time material is moved, the equipment should be inspected prior to moving. Scope. This section applies to slings used In conjunction with other material handling equipment for the movement of material by hoisting, in employments covered by this part. The types of slings covered are those made from alloy steel chain, wire rope, metal mesh, natural or synthetic fiber rope (conventional three strand construction), and synthetic web (nylon, polyester, and polypropylene). 

Hoisting is the act of raising, lowering or otherwise moving a load in the air with equipment covered by this standard. As used in this standard, hoisting can be done by means other than wire rope/hoist drum equipment. 

Wire ropes on equipment must not be used until an inspection under this paragraph demonstrates that no corrective action under paragraph (a)(4) of this section is required. 

The most effective way of controlling a prisoner is to tie him. Yon can use pieces of clothing or equipment to tie him securely, such as shoe laces, leather or web belts, neckties, handerchiefs, or twisted strips of cloth. If a night patrol has the mission of capturing prisoners, it should always carry a piece of rope or flexible wire.
