II. Product Summaries Schrodinger provides its FirstDiscovery software suite to address and aid in the discovery process in industry. First Discovery runs under Unix and Linux and it includes several programs Glide, Jaguar, Liaison, LigPrep, MacroModel, Maestro, Mopac 2002, pKa predictor, Phase, Prime, QikPro, Qsite, and Strike. For the Microsoft Windows platform Schrodinger offers CAChe, BioMedCAChe, ChemFrontier, MaterialsExplorer, QikPro, Titan, and WinMOPAC. 

Today, the speed of the Pentium processors has allowed for much more complicated algorithms written on the Windows platform, such as computing many-flux calculations and spectral matching routines. New color-matching technology provides sophisticated and intuitive color formulation that is easily learned and used by the expert as well as the novice color matcher. 

Windows-based applications that are written for older versions of Windows are referred to as 16-bit applications or Windows 3.x applications. Newer applications written specifically for Windows 9x or Windows 2000 are designed for use on more modern hardware and take advantage of the fact that Windows 9x and 2000 are 32-bit operating systems. A complete application programming interface is available for MMDB as part of the NCBI toolkit, containing a wide variety of C code libraries and applications. Both an ASN.l input/output programming interface layer and a molecular computing layer (MMDB-API) are present in the NCBI toolkit. A large number of web sites are built using PHP and MySQL on Linux platforms with Apache as the web server. This combination is known as the LAMP architecture. Apache, PHP and MySQL are also available on Windows platforms giving rise to combinations like WAMP (Windows, Ap>ache, MySQL and PHP) and WIMP (where the IIS web server is used instead of Apache). Even though LAMP is a very popular architecture there has been little work to characterize and benchmark the architecture, especially at an application level. 

The application is developed on the Microsoft Windows platform (Win32) and the intermediate layer is implemented as dynamic link hbraries (DLLs), moreover, a communication interface between it and the main application is defined. The bottom layer (layer 1) consists of the devices that are connected directly to the computer, interface cards and device drivers, manufacturer libraries for the control of the equipment and programming the connection interfaces. 

Sound Shaper is a GUI for the CDP sound transformation toolkit, developed by Robert Fraser. This comprehensive piece of work is written in Delphi and is available for the IBM PC-compatible Windows platforms. It sits on top of and transparently makes use of the standard CDP command line set of programs, so it will work immediately with any current Release 4 version of the CDP System.

There is a need to develop tools for e-leaming. We have explained the remote tutor tool that has been designed at our Institute to meet this requirement. It is a user friendly tool which works on the Windows platform. It is interactive. The teacher and the students can communicate with each other almost mimicking a real life classroom scenario.
