The window design required the penetration test piece to be constructed with a rectangular cross section rather than the typical circular ACR configuration. The pharmacokinetic window design has many variants. One variant is where each subject is sampled twice on each visit. The optical measurement is made near the edge of a sample cuvette the cuvette is close to the pressure window and the high-pressure window is itself reduced to a minimum thickness. Instead of using 1 cm of sapphire, 1 mm of steel makes a good window , if this 1 mm can be supported. An effective solution has been described recently.
