Irish wind power company Airtricity, in partnership with GE Energy, recently completed the Arklow Bank Wind Park in the Irish Sea. The park has seven GE 3.6-megawatt turbines and can power approximately 16,000 homes per year. In 2007, Farm Energy, a wind power company in the U.K., released plans for the Atlantic Array farm off the British coast that include 370 turbines capable of generating 1,500 megawatts. [Pg.42]

The aim of the Greek test site was to study the possibility for hydrogen to become an alternative product for wind-park developers, in case electricity transmission lines are saturated, studying at the same time the performance of hydrogen production and storage technologies under variable power input. [Pg.96]

The unexploited wind potential and RES capacity of the autonomous areas electricity network should drive utilities and other independent producers to invest in RES-to-electricity schemes, mainly wind parks. Their high productivity, affordability and life expectancy outperforms any other competing technology, renewable or not, and therefore it should become the highest priority addition to the island s energy system. [Pg.154]

Figure 5.78. Off-shore areas set aside for wind power production by Danish planning legislation. For each area, the legend gives an estimate of the total annual production possible from wind parks in that area. Considerations of minimum spacing between turbines and optimal configuration enter these estimates (based on Danish Power Utilities, 1997 Sorensen et al. 2001). Figure 5.78. Environmental and coast protection (Druet et al., 1976a), utilization of its energy potential (Svensson, 1981), safety of maritime transport (Quandt, 1980) and tourism and recreational activities (construction of marinas on the coast, search and rescue), and also the military confrontation in the B altic Sea led to an increased interest in sea state characteristics. The offshore industry (exploration and production of natural gas and petroleum), the construction and operation of wind parks, as well as maritime and harbor management (Gayer et al., 1995) are further areas that require both climatological and updated information about a variety of sea state parameters. [Pg.145]

Those large scale electrolyzers can convert excess energy of big wind parks into hydrogen and enable big storage solutions to contribute to the balance within our grid. Hydrogen can be re-electrified by gas turbines or be injected pure or as methane into our gas grid. [Pg.212]

A wind park is composed of interconnected wind turbines and a centralized wind park control centre as shown in Figure 1. As previously explained current wind turbine control unit follows a federated architectural approach and provides three... [Pg.7]
