The thickness is measured in Dobsons (= 0.01 mm thick). The normal ozone layer for the stratosphere is 360 Dobsons (color coded as green). The ozone "hole" shown in pink is 200-220 Dobsons. The "hole" will increase when another reading is taken in September. 

This overall problem of element 94 isolation will occupy most of our attention for some time to come. The work of my group in the Department of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley, during the period August 1940 to the present, has produced much of the background information which is the basis of the Metallurgical Project. (This is the code name for the project whose mission is to produce fissionable element 94 in sufficient quantity for use in a nuclear weapon, and the project is centered at the University of Chicago.)...

The Zag meteorite fell in the western Sahara of Morocco in August 1998. This meteorite was unusual in that it contained small crystals of halite (table salt), which experts believe formed by the evaporation of brine (salt water). It is one of the few indications that liquid water, which is essential for the development of life, may have existed in the early solar system. The halite crystals in the meteorite had a remarkably high abundance of 128Xe, a decay product of a short-lived iodine isotope that has long been absent from the solar system. Scientists believe that the iodine existed when the halite crystals formed. The xenon formed when this iodine decayed. For this reason, the Zag meteorite is believed to be one of the oldest artifacts in the solar system. In this lab, you will use potassium-argon radiochemical dating to estimate the age of the Zag meteorite and the solar system. 

While the aforementioned studies have described the manifestations of i n ut.ero exposure to PCP by human and animal fetuses as well as behaviors adult monkeys who had received only PCP, the longterm consequences of prenatal abuse have not been described. Therefore, this report will elaborate upon our observations of the effects of PCP upon the growth and development of 12 neonates between 2 and 18 months of age, whom we have followed from August 1983 to March 1985.

Facilities that produce PETP will have an additional six months, until August 27, to comply with new equipment leak standards, it is briefly reported. The EPA has said an extension of the February 27 compliance deadline was necessary because the agency is reviewing petitions filed by PETP producers for reconsideration of the 1996 standards, which are part of the National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants for group IV polymers and resins. 

After having made this distinction, the tower can be used paradoxically, to transport consciousness for a very specific purpose. First, let s be quite clear that consciousness itself doesn t actually require any vehicle to be anywhere. Consciousness is omnipresent. But consciousness does require a vehicle to function, to be effective, upon any given plane. In very advanced practice, the tower is moved within the etheric counterpart of the Earth, first to the North Pole, where our planet receives most of the incoming cosmic radiations from the stars, and from there to other locations, even to the great diamond-crowned Tower at the principal abode of the immortal Sages, that august sanctuary which is, as its name states, the place where the will of God is known. This is a high level of practice that is only undertaken with direct tuition.

Sigatoka, like Panama wilt, is equally destructive to the banana industry. Plants attacked by the organism will not produce marketable fruit and the plantation will eventually die out. First recognized in Java in 1903, it became serious in 1910 when it reduced Fiji exports from 1,300,000 stems to 100,000 within a few years. First infections appeared in Honduras in August of 1935 and eliminated production from 22,000 acres within 16 months. 

A burning issue is the ethics of obtaining pluripotent stem cells from embryos and fetuses. The US government has acted on this issue and declared that federal funds for stem cell research have to meet certain criteria. It requires that funding will only be provided to research with stem cells obtained before August 9, 2001, as a cut-off date to limit research to preexisting stem cells. In 1995 a breakthrough occurred in this field in February we were able to show the synthesis and the spectroscopic properties of the first complexes of type B [7], and in August the first isolated and structurally characterized complexes containing terminal metal-phosphorus triple bonds (type A) were independently obtained and published in back-to-back articles by the groups of Cummins [8] and Schrock [9]. Since then, a rapid development has occurred in the synthesis and particularly in the study of the reactivity pattern of complexes with phosphorus-transition metal triple bonds. This review chapter will highlight the development in this field by giving an overview from 1995 until the current stage of research.
