Wider range of solids

Voorhees s experimental study of low-volume-fraction-solid liquid+solid Pb-Sn mixtures carried out under microgravity conditions during a space shuttle flight enabled a wider range of solid-phase volume fractions to be studied without significant influence of buoyancy (flotation and sedimentation) effects [13]. The rate of approach to the steady-state particle-size distribution in 0.1-0.2 volume-fraction... [Pg.371]

This simplified model of the decomposition process is provided here to introduce the more detailed accounts given in the later chapters. The relatively simple processes now accepted as being involved in decompositions have provided a model for developing kinetic principles apphcable to a wider range of solid state reactions. [Pg.27]

The elasticity role in the indentation process was offered to account for the purpose of analysis spreading on wider range of solids. Hill obtained the following formula for solid body having elasticity modulus E and Poisson s ratio v [7] ... [Pg.243]

The range of systems that have been studied by force field methods is extremely varied. Some force fields liave been developed to study just one atomic or molecular sp>ecies under a wider range of conditions. For example, the chlorine model of Rodger, Stone and TUdesley [Rodger et al 1988] can be used to study the solid, liquid and gaseous phases. This is an anisotropic site model, in which the interaction between a pair of sites on two molecules dep>ends not only upon the separation between the sites (as in an isotropic model such as the Lennard-Jones model) but also upon the orientation of the site-site vector with resp>ect to the bond vectors of the two molecules. The model includes an electrostatic component which contciins dipwle-dipole, dipole-quadrupole and quadrupole-quadrupole terms, and the van der Waals contribution is modelled using a Buckingham-like function. [Pg.249]

The development of lasers has continued in the past few years and 1 have included discussions of two more in this edition. These are the alexandrite and titanium-sapphire lasers. Both are solid state and, unusually, tunable over quite wide wavelength ranges. The titanium-sapphire laser is probably the most promising for general use because of its wider range of tunability and the fact that it can be operated in a CW or pulsed mode. [Pg.469]

NRA is an effective technique for measuring depth profiles of light elements in solids. Its sensitivity and isotope-selective character make it ideal for isotopic tracer experiments. NRA is also capable of profiling hydrogen, which can be characterized by only a few other analytical techniques. Future prospects include further application of the technique in a wider range of fields, three-dimensional mapping with microbeams, and development of an easily accessible and comprehensive compilation of reaction cross sections. [Pg.692]

With regard to the solution approach, it is imperative that the solvent used be of the highest possible purity. Solution headspace is applicable to a much wider range of samples than the solid approach. When working with... [Pg.203]

Experimentally generated data have quantitatively shown a tendency of increased solids deposition at lower gas mass flow rate in slug flows except that, below a certain amount of solids mass flow rate, the deposition becomes independent of the gas flow rate, which is due to particle fluidised motion before a slug flow commences. Further work will focus on experiments with a wider range of flow conditions using sophisticated measuring tools to validate the model and to build up a quantitative protocol for the description of solids deposition in conveying pipes. [Pg.174]
