Turning to the XANES results (Figure 8.4), upon reduction at 350°C, the extent of reduction is found to be higher for the H2-activated air calcined catalysts. This is evident in the shoulder at the edge (-7,709 eV), which is a measure of metallic content, as well as the lower white line intensity for the activated air calcined catalyst at -7,725 eV. The catalysts appear to contain a combination of mainly Co metal and CoO, in agreement with the interpretation of TPR profiles previously discussed. [Pg.155]

The throne s incumbent is robed in white linen with a mantle of crimson silk falling from his shoulders. He bears a tall staff surmounted by the triple cross of Melchizadek. Upon his head rests the White Crown of Upper Egypt, encircled by three gold diadems. His face is as old as yesterday and as young as tomorrow. The mouth is generous and warm and the eyes are deep and dark to look into them is to see the starry wisdom mirrored therein. [Pg.219]

Iron was first found in NO synthase by Mayer and coworkers86. Probably because the amount of enzyme obtained from brain was small, they reported the iron as non-heme. The next year, however, the iron was reported by White and Marietta87 as heme iron. The heme was identified at a mixture of high-spin and low-spin states with a shoulder at... [Pg.983]

A panda walks into a bar and orders a drink. When he s done, he draws a gun and fires two shots into the air. What was that for asks the confused bartender. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. I m a panda, he says, at the door. Look it up. The bartender turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation. Panda. Large, black-and-white bearlike mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots, and leaves. ... [Pg.14]

In the case of the praseodymium oxychloride produced from praseodymium oxide by the reaction in the presence of TCM (white-green portion), an O Is peak at 529.3 eV with a shoulder at 531 eV was observed. The peak shifted to 528.9 eV after xenon ion-sputtering for 0.5 min. The peak of Pr 3d was similar to that for praseodymium chloride, that is, the main peak was observed at 932.9 eV with a shoulder at 928 eV which was more clearly defined than that in the spectrum for praseodymium chloride. The peak shifted to 932.5 eV after the sputtering and the shoulder at 928 eV intensified as seen in the spectra for praseodymium chloride. The peak of Cl 2p was present at 198.8 eV and the position of the peak did not change after the sputtering. [Pg.332]

This formula expels wind and eliminates dampness from the superficial part of the body and the subcutaneous region. It treats wind-dampness at the superficial level of the body and the Qi movement and blood circulation are blocked. This disorder is manifested as stiffness and pain of the neck, back and shoulders, headache, heaviness of the body, aversion to cold with mild fever, a white, slightly sticky tongue coating and a superficial pulse. [Pg.207]

The material is normally utilized directly without further purification. If the solid is very gray, it may be recrystallized. For the recrystallization the salt is dissolved in hot 95% ethanol (approximately 350 ml. per 100 g. of salt) containing decolorizing carbon, filtered rapidly, and the clear supernatant liquid is allowed to cool in a freezer (—20°). In this way, white crystals, m.p. 106-107°, may be obtained with nearly quantitative recovery. The checkers obtained the purified material of m.p. 108-109° with 95% recovery and used this material for the next step. The purified material has the following spectral data ultraviolet (95% ethanol) nm. max (e) 236 shoulder (13,200), 262 (2200), 268 (2680), 275 (1010) infrared (Nujol) cm-1 3090 weak, 3060 weak (aromatic CH), 1580 weak (C=C) proton magnetic resonance (CDCla), first-order analysis, 6 in p.p.m. 7.5-8.2 (multiplet 10H, Ha), 4.3 (poorly resolved triplet 2H, Hb), 3.75 (triplet 2H, Hd), 2-2.5 (multiplet 2H, He) coupling constant J in Hz. Jbc — 8, Jcd = 6.5. [Pg.30]

An alarm went unheeded as the General soared up the stairs into the darkened street. The illuminations were low and white, the buildings caged in steel buttresses. This sector of the city seemed oddly deserted. Razum hoisted her over one shoulder and vaulted across the road. His boots stamped up a metal ladder. She heard a door wrenched rudely open, more gunshots ricocheted off an armoured shell. [Pg.25]

A survey and carbon Is spectrum from untreated white pine is shown in Figure 36. Survey spectra and chlorine 2p as well as carbon Is spectra are shown in Figure 37 taken from white pine treated with hydrogen peroxide, HCL, and acetic acid with heating. This oxidative treatment has oxidized carbon as evidenced by shoulders in the C Is spectra at higher binding energies and introduced carbon chlorine bonds on the surface as evidenced by the chlorine 2p line around 200 eV. [Pg.191]
