Wheeled fire extinguishers

Wheeled fire extinguishers containing a 3% AFFF foam-water solution are intended for applying foam on small flammable-liquid spill fires where manpower is limited. They can be moved from one area to another and can be operated by one person. AFFF solution should be applied by means of a 1 in (2.5 cm) hard rubber hose, 15 ft (4.5 m) long, connected to the tank.

A conductivity test should be conducted annually on all carbon dioxide hose assemblies. Hose assemblies found to be nonconductive should be replaced. Pressure regulators provided with wheel-typed fire extinguishers... 

The primary key for safe laboratory operations is the fume hood, which removes harmful vapors. The fume hood should be correctly drawing air across the open surface. Clutter within the hood must be minimized for safe operations. Outside the hood, all equipment such as gas cylinders, must be safely secured. Personnel must be protected from any moving equipment, such as belts and wheels of pumps and air compressors. All emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and spill containment pillows, must be readily accessible. 

ANSUL manufactures wheeled and handheld portable fire extinguishers. 

Fire containment and suppression was a challenging fight. It took twenty-two 30-poimd hand-held chemical fire extinguishers, two 125-pound wheeled imits and firewater. One individual received second-degree bums. 

Portable fire extinguishers include both self-contained fire extinguishing equipment that can be carried by one person and wheeled units that can be handled by one or two people. Due to their limited capacity, portable fire extinguishers are designed to control fires that are just starting or that are of limited size. 

Portable and wheeled or cart-type fire extinguishers should be located near the equipment to be protected, but not so close that they can become involved in the fire or that a person cannot reach them. They will generally be placed along normal paths of travel so that they are immediately available. 

Ramps are used to minimize tripping hazards and to facilitate use of wheeled equipment such as some fire extinguishers, oxygen/acetylene rigs, and hand carts. 

Application of these chemicals in portable or wheeled extinguishers, hand-held hose line systems or fixed nozzle systems provides for quick fire knockdown and extinguishment. 

Where no fire water main is provided, at least two 150 lb (68 kg) wheeled dry chemical extinguishers should be provided and located within 50 ft (15 m) of pump or manifold areas and easily reached along emergency access paths.
