Salts of Organic Acids. Calcium salts of organic acids may be prepared by reaction of the carbonate hydroxide and the organic acid (9). Calcium lactate [814-80-2] is an iatermediate ia the purification of lactic acid from fermentation of molasses. Calcium soaps, soaps of fatty acids, ate soluble ia hydrocarbons, and are useful as waterproofing agents and constituents of greases (9). 

In the pyrot area, paraffin is widely used in the manuf of book and wooden matches, as a protective coating to counteract possible surface deterioration of metal powders, as a lubricant and waterproofing agent for the interior surfaces of kraft paper flare and signal cases, and as a binder which tends to fill interstices between particles on press loading (Ref 7, pp 69, 71, 302 316)... 

Uses Plasticizer in lacquers, varnishes, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, nitrocellulose waterproofing agent hydraulic fluid and heat exchange medium fire retardant for plastics solvent mixtures synthetic lubricant gasoline additive to prevent pre-ignition. 

Uses Curing and hardening polymers catalytic solvent in chemical synthesis accelerator activators for rubber wetting, penetrating, and waterproofing agents of quaternary ammonium types corrosion inhibitor propellant.

Chromium(Ill) chloride is used for chromium plating as textile mordant in tanning as a waterproofing agent and as catalyst for polymerization of olefins. 

For use in cannon, these powds were mixed with about 3.5% cottonseed oil as a waterproofing agent... 

Roth. of Germany and later patented by duPont Co (USP 2048050 of 1934). The Commission des Substances Explosives (CSE) studied not only the use of stearate (as waterproofing agent), but also the abietate, naphthenate, resinate, alignite, etc but came to the conclusion that Ca stearate gave the best results. It was found, however, inefficient for aluminized expls (Ref 1)...

Exemplary materials for the waterproofing of masonry surfaces are waterproof membranes such as poly(vinyl chloride), PE, butyl rubber, and sealants such as tar, asphalt, paints, poly(urethane), epoxy or mastics. While these waterproofing agents can offer excellent resistance to water penetration and other contaminants, they can alter the appearance of the masonry surface, e.g., they may change the color of the surface or leave it with a shine. Waterproofing treatments can also trap moisture within the masonry surface and promote spalling. 

Triacetin has been used as a solvent for acetocellulose and as a plasticizer in the pyroxylin industry (Ref 5). It was patented by Hale Cameron (Ref 3) as a flash reducing agent in NC propellants. According to Ref 4, triacetin acts as a gelatinizing and waterproofing agent. It has been used successfully as plasticizer and coolant in single-base propellants and in cast doublebase propellants (see Note)...
