Warning characteristics

One safety trick is to add to your total HF solution about one or two percent nitric acid. This addition will not assist the cleaning properties to any significant amount, but it will add more effective warning characteristics to both the odor and any accidental skin contact. This practice is similar in concept to the addition of hydrogen sulfide to methane. [Pg.247]

Sillem, S., H. M. Jagtman, J.W.F. Wiersma B.J.M. Ale (2006). Using cell broadcast in citizens warning characteristics of messages. PSAM8, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. [Pg.335]

Characteristic properties of the substance Classification Hazard warning sign... [Pg.454]

Colorless Odor. Characteristic almond-like pungent, penetrating may not be sufficiently strong to provide an adequate warning. [Pg.98]

Ohservahle Characteristics - Physical State (as shipped) Liquefied compressed gas Color. Colorless Odor Mild. But commercial LPG has a skunk-like odorant added as a warning. [Pg.236]

Warning properties The physical and chemical characteristics of a substance that allow it to be tasted or smelled at unsafe concentration levels. [Pg.1487]

Lees and Whitehead" have shown that differences in boiler design lead to differences in furnace atmospheres, which are subsequently reflected in differences in scale morphology and corrosion performance. Hence they report that there is no unique scale morphology which is characteristic of furnace wall corrosion. They also warn that the scale that is examined during an investigation may not be an exact reflection of the scale on the tube surfaces during operation due to the possible hydrolysis of the scale on cooling (when hot flue gas is replaced by moist air) and the redistribution of phases in the scale due to the loss of the incident heat flux. [Pg.988]

The most striking characteristic of thiols is their appalling odor. Skunk scent, for instance, is caused primarily by the simple thiols 3-methyl-1-butanethiol and 2-butene-l-thiol. Volatile thiols such as ethanethiol are also added to natural gas and liquefied propane to serve as an easily detectable warning in case of leaks. [Pg.667]

If the medicinal product (s) is currently licensed it is recommended that the current summary of product characteristics (Previously known as the data sheet) is consulted for appropriate contra indications, precautions and warnings. [Pg.83]

Significant changes in the Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) such as, the introduction of new contraindications, the introduction of new warnings, the reduction in the recommended dose, the restriction in the indications, the restriction in the availability of the medicinal product. [Pg.258]

Wildlife indicators can establish baseline conditions, act as early warning signals of environmental problems, identify the extent of contamination, define critical pathways and responses at multiple trophic levels, as well as integrate biological exposure with the physical and chemical environment (Farrington 1991). Indicator selection is based on a combination of criteria or characteristics that include (Jenkins 1981) ... [Pg.126]

Patients with skin cancer generally present with a lesion that may be located anywhere on the body. The most common sites are the head, neck, trunk, and extremities. Changes in any characteristics of a lesion are important danger warning signals. Abnormal presentations of a mole/lesion indicate the need for further assessment. [Pg.1434]

But for ordinary data, we would not expect such a sequence to happen. This is the reason most statistics work as general indicators of data performance the special cases that cause them to fail are themselves low-probability occurrences. In this case the problem is not whether or not the data are nonlinear, the problem is that they are nonrandom. This is a perfect example of the data failing to meet a criterion other than the one you are concerned with. Therefore the Durbin-Watson test fails, as would any statistical test fail for such data they are simply not amenable to meaningful statistical calculations. Nevertheless, a blind computation of the Durbin-Watson statistic would give an apparently satisfactory value. But this is a warning that other characteristics of the data can cause it to appear to meet the criteria. [Pg.432]

In future, Mulliken and others would attempt to substitute ab initio methods for the earlier methods of successive approximations. With this, quantum chemistry was to become more abstract, more theoretical, than in its initial development. The new approaches seemed to express increasing confidence in a deep level of understanding, the hubris so characteristic of the quest for mathematical certainty. There were dangers in this which Coulson warned might deceive the theoretician. "One is almost tempted to say. .. at last I can almost see a bond. But that will never be, for a bond does not really exist at all it is a most convenient fiction which, as we have seen, is convenient both to experimental and theoretical chemists." 151... [Pg.277]
